Chapter 5 Supervisor

After returning to Room 302, Lin Yi found herself not yet sleepy, so she transferred the contents of the card into her personal terminal. The data consisted partly of past entrance exam questions and partly of the content from this year's supplementary classes at the Source Academy, along with detailed explanations from the teachers, all carefully marked with key points. It was evident that Old Du had some ability, as these materials were not something just anyone could obtain. Outside coaching classes often provided subpar materials, either incomplete or disorganized, with many answers missing. Following such subpar materials would likely lead to skewed learning, resulting in a large number of failures during the actual exam.

The acceptance rate at the Source Academy was low, making the competition fierce. Competition among coaching classes was cutthroat, with each trying to trip up the others to secure clients. In this vicious cycle, the materials Old Du provided Lin Yi held significant value.

The entrance exam at the Source Academy consisted of two parts: a written exam and practical skills assessment. Only after passing the written exam could candidates proceed to the practical assessment, which aimed to test their sensitivity to Source energy. Candidates were required to bring their own Source stone. However, preparation for the practical exam was limited to pre-exam intensive training; there was no last-minute cramming. Sensitivity to Source energy was either innate or a derived ability from enhanced genetics. Long-term cultivation and practice were necessary to increase and stabilize this sensitivity, typically taking five to ten years.

In Old Du's view, even if Lin Yi had some innate talent, she lacked targeted training during her upbringing. Thus, even if she wanted to cram at the last minute, it was already too late. With less than a month until the entrance exam, she had no time to spare.

Moreover, Lin Yi was a genetic patient nearing adulthood. While her sensitivity threshold might barely reach the passing line now, it would be difficult for it to increase after she reached adulthood, while others would continue to progress. The gap between her and others would become increasingly apparent, leading to despair before long.

Hence, the materials provided by Old Du were only written exam questions, with just a set of practical rules outlined, and a final sentence: "Whether you can pass depends mainly on luck."

Sensitivity threshold? Lin Yi took out the Source stone Old Du had given her and examined it with her enhanced vision, clearly seeing the Source energy patterns contained within. She didn't know how the threshold was calculated, so she wasn't sure what her own threshold was, but she thought it shouldn't be too low.

After completing two sets of written exam questions and checking her answers, Lin Yi finally felt tired. She closed the question bank without any burden and fell asleep.

---

Resting for a full day and night, the next day when she was on day shift, Lin Yi was surprised to see Old Du also there. "How did you know I changed shifts?"

Old Du still asked her to make him a "Star Lord" before saying, "I'm here to find Cao Dong. Is he here?"

Cao Dong was the supervisor on the first floor of the Starry Sky, and he had some connection with Old Du. It was through Cao Dong's relationship that Old Du arranged for Lin Yi to work here as a bartender.

"He is, but Cao Supervisor doesn't seem to be in a good mood today," Lin Yi said as she handed him a glass of ice water. "How did the investigation of that matter go?"

Old Du shook his head, not answering Lin Yi's question. "Let me go ask first, is he in his office?"

Lin Yi felt that Old Du had probably found something, but it seemed he didn't intend to tell her right away, so she glanced at him before saying, "He should be."

Old Du then went over, and Lin Yi watched his figure as he walked away. At this time, there were few customers at the bar, and the ones there were ordering regular drinks. With a machine attendant to assist, the two idle bartenders gathered to gossip.

"Why was Supervisor Cao so angry today?"

"Is it because of recent personnel changes?"

"What personnel changes?"

"The personnel changes in the senior management of the Starry Sky. It's been all over the news, haven't you seen?"

"What does that have to do with Supervisor Cao?"

"Don't you know that Supervisor Cao came down from above two years ago? At that time, it was said that he would go back."

"So now, is the road back... not easy?"

"I don't know, but according to gossip, Supervisor Cao seems to want to call off his engagement, but his fiancée has close ties with senior management."

"Wow!"

---

Lin Yi was wiping glasses while listening to the gossip. Suddenly, there was a new message notification on her personal terminal. She opened it and then closed it expressionlessly, neatly arranging the glasses in front of her.

It was a message from Old Du. The son of a friend of Supervisor Cao was kidnapped yesterday, and the modus operandi of the criminals was similar to what happened to her the night before last—they used a system suppressor, only this time, it was a military-grade one, as the robots around the child were at least E+ level.

Lin Yi's intuition told her that Old Du sent her this information because Supervisor Cao wanted to see her.

Sure enough, ten minutes later, a message came from the head bartender: "Supervisor wants you in the office."

Lin Yi put down the shaker in her hand, told her colleagues nearby, and then left the bar, heading towards the office, with Ah Yuan silently following behind her.

---

Supervisor Cao's assistant was already waiting outside the office. When he saw Lin Yi, he deliberately paused his gaze on Ah Yuan before Lin Yi asked Ah Yuan to wait at the door, and only then did the assistant lead Lin Yi in.

The office had a cold, metallic style. Apart from Old Du and Supervisor Cao, there were eight burly men in the room, dressed as bodyguards, and three of them were super-genetic carriers.

The atmosphere in the office was heavy, as a conversation had just taken place, and now everyone was silent. Lin Yi's entrance broke the silence, and all eyes turned to her.

This was the first time Lin Yi had seen Supervisor Cao. When Old Du introduced her to him and mentioned Lin Yi coming to work at the Starry Sky, Supervisor Cao only instructed the head bartender to conduct the interview, and he hadn't been involved in the subsequent matters. He didn't even know whether Lin Yi was male or female. Today, when Old Du suddenly came to him and mentioned Lin Yi, he couldn't recall who she was for a moment, but that didn't matter. What mattered was that someone had tried to kidnap Lin Yi using the same method as before, but Lin Yi had escaped. For him, this might be the only breakthrough in the current situation, so after using his connections to learn about it, he had a plan in mind and immediately had someone come over.

When the office door was pushed open, Supervisor Cao initially thought Lin Yi was a young boy. It wasn't until Lin Yi approached that he realized she was a girl.

"So, you're Lin Yi," Supervisor Cao observed Lin Yi while speaking. "I heard about what happened to you the night before last."

Lin Yi first glanced at Old Du, then withdrew her gazeand looked at Supervisor Cao, nodding slightly.

Supervisor Cao, as the supervisor of the first floor of Starry Sky, oversaw a myriad of matters, although Lin Yi wasn't clear about the extent of his responsibilities. In her eyes, this man, who was said to be in his seventies, maintained a peak state resembling someone in their thirties, both in physique and appearance.

His life source pattern was bright in Lin Yi's eyes, indicating he was an outstanding super-genetic carrier.

Lin Yi's demeanor surprised Supervisor Cao slightly. Most employees meeting him for the first time in his office would exhibit some nervousness and restraint, especially in such a situation with so many eyes upon them. Some would even become stiff in their movements. But this girl, her calmness didn't seem forced, and her composure in facing him wasn't typical for someone her age.

Upon her entrance, the only emotional fluctuation Lin Yi displayed was when she looked at Old Du, a hint of questioning in her eyes.

However, the fact that this girl was a genetic patient, had it not been for her records, Supervisor Cao might have mistaken her for a super-genetic carrier.
