Chapter 10: Heading to the Third Floor

That night, Fang Chong slept for a solid ten hours, from around ten at night until eight in the morning. If it weren't for the growling hunger in his stomach, he might have slept even longer. Fang Chong, surprised at his extended sleep, shook his head lightly, realizing it was due to the changes in his body. Before the apocalypse, he was the epitome of a homebody, rarely engaging in physical activities. Yesterday's intense exertion was a considerable departure from his norm, and merely getting up today was an achievement.

Rubbing his eyes and stretching, Fang Chong got up to find something to eat. Though skipping the usual morning routine felt odd, he understood that future days might be even more challenging. He grabbed a piece of bread and took a bite.

Consuming five pieces of bread and three bottles of milk in one go, Fang Chong only felt the hunger in his stomach subside.

"Could it be that as the level of my body increases, my appetite also grows?" Fang Chong pondered, recognizing a significant concern while eating.

Today's breakfast doubled Fang Chong's usual appetite, leaving him bewildered. Eventually, he concluded that the most likely explanation was an increase in his body's level.

"Well, let's leave it to fate," Fang Chong sighed. Although he currently didn't need to worry about food, he pondered the future challenges.

"I wonder if there are any tasks for today?" Fang Chong, feeling energized after moving around in the warehouse, thought about the Maya system. The generous rewards from the three tasks yesterday still lingered in his mind, tempting him to take on more.

Subsequently, Fang Chong entered the Maya system.

"Maya, what tasks do we have today?" Upon entering, he promptly inquired.

"Host's success rate in completing tasks yesterday was one hundred percent. There won't be any new tasks within the next two days," the blurry figure inside the Maya system replied swiftly to Fang Chong's question.

"Ah, so that's how it is?" Fang Chong's face registered surprise, but with Maya's explanation, there was nothing he could do.

Seems like today, I'll have a good fight with those zombies," coming out from the Maya system, Fang Chong felt a bit frustrated. However, since he couldn't change the system's decisions, he shifted his focus elsewhere.

"As for the backpack, forget it; it's not very useful and hinders movement." Planning to go out, Fang Chong decided he needed to bring some things along, and a knife was a must. As for the backpack he brought from home yesterday, he decided to abandon it.

Before having the storage space, the backpack served its purpose well, especially for carrying food. However, with the existence of the storage space, it became redundant.

After tying the fruit knife to his back, Fang Chong headed out with 'Silent Annihilation.' The second floor was thoroughly cleaned yesterday, so Fang Chong easily reached the staircase. However, upon arriving, he hesitated between going up or down.

Fang Chong still remembers vividly that there were indeed quite a few zombies on the second floor yesterday, numbering in the hundreds. Going down now, while leaving quietly is an option, attempting to kill them one by one poses difficulties. Being surrounded inadvertently would leave Fang Chong as their meal.

After careful consideration, Fang Chong made a decision – going up to the third floor. The third floor was where the clothing section was. Even if there were zombies, there would probably be no more than on the second floor – a few dozen at most. They shouldn't pose a significant threat to Fang Chong.

Gently pushing aside the debris blocking the staircase, Fang Chong took each step with caution, gripping 'Silent Annihilation' tightly in his hands.

"Step, step, step."

The not-so-subtle sound of footsteps echoed in the silent stairwell. Fang Chong firmly held 'Silent Annihilation,' a heavy knife weighing around thirty to forty kilograms. While carrying it felt not too pronounced, holding it in front of him in a different posture made a significant difference. Fortunately, Fang Chong's current strength, over three hundred kilograms in both hands, made it manageable; otherwise, not only would killing zombies be challenging, but merely holding the knife would be problematic.

The journey from the second to the third floor was short, and Fang Chong reached it quickly.

"Zombies aren't that scary." Fang Chong didn't rush into the third floor, leaning against the wall to calm his nerves. Despite facing zombies not for the first time, the fear of the unknown danger lingered. A day's time wasn't enough for Fang Chong to grow immune to danger.

After taking a deep breath, Fang Chong crouched down, sneaking into the third floor.

The third floor had a similar area to the second, but fewer shelves. It looked more spacious, and the clothing racks were not very tall, allowing Fang Chong to quickly assess the environment.

"Three on the left, only one in front," Fang Chong analyzed the current situation on the third floor. The closest zombie, and therefore the most threatening, was the one in front.

"Deal with the one in front first." Fang Chong decided to take out the closest zombies first for safety. Although killing the others first wouldn't make much difference, considering safety, it was better to eliminate the weaker threats first.

With a plan in mind, Fang Chong moved with more purpose.

Wearing a blue knee-length skirt and a white shirt, the female zombie in front of Fang Chong had an outfit he was familiar with—it seemed to be Carrefour's work uniform. Due to the short distance, Fang Chong quickly approached behind the female zombie.

"Stab." Without any hesitation, Fang Chong, now behind the female zombie, swung 'Silent Annihilation' forward.

Standing at less than five feet and three inches, the female zombie was at an absolute disadvantage against Fang Chong. Before the zombie could react, Fang Chong's knife sliced smoothly across the zombie's neck.

The sharpness of 'Silent Annihilation' encountered no resistance as it cleanly beheaded the zombie. Completing the first strike smoothly, Fang Chong swiftly immersed himself in the role of an exterminator. Using the same method, he quickly killed eleven zombies. With such smooth progress and a limited number of zombies, Fang Chong no longer needed to be stealthy. Instead, he boldly proceeded to exterminate the zombies since their quantity and speed posed little threat to his safety.

"Roar!" As Fang Chong's noise grew louder, all the zombies on the third floor were attracted to him.

"With only around twenty-something, what's there to be afraid of?" Watching the zombies stagger towards him, Fang Chong showed no sign of fear. Instead, he boldly charged at them, brandishing his knife.
