"Brother Xian?" Jiaojiao called out suspiciously. "Is something up, Brother Xian?"
"What, I can't talk to you if there's nothing going on?" Lu Xian laughed, and it was the kind of laugh that came from deep within his chest, the kind that made you feel better just hearing it.
"Of course not, Jiaojiao is always happy to talk to Brother Xian! These past few days, aside from missing Mom the most, the person I've missed most is you, Brother Xian." Jiaojiao said, her words sweet as honey, flowing out effortlessly.
What she didn't realize was that the moment she said this, Xiu Xi's expression turned visibly darker, almost instantly.
Shu Wen observed this unfold. She glanced meaningfully at Jiaojiao and Xiu Xi, then raised an eyebrow as if she had just come to some realization. With a bit of a gossiping streak in her tone, she pointed towards the pair at Shu Jiao, who had just walked over from the kitchen.
