Chapter 2 This Younger Brother_1

This was the edge of Huai City, a place with few residents to start with, so by eight o'clock on this frigid night, it was nearly deserted.

Spotting a beauty wasn't easy, and the sleazy man certainly wasn't willing to give up. He understood that these two women didn't know each other and that the one must have just called the other for help.

Just two women...

The sleazy man thought for a moment and decided to continue following them.

Initially, Musheng had been on the opposite side, with her way home being on the sleazy man's side. Seeing the situation, she still led Hai Ge towards that direction.

Hai Ge was shaking slightly, wearing only a red dress under her coat on such a cold day, revealing her straight, long legs. She looked somewhat sultry but irresistibly tempting.

Musheng felt cold just looking at her.

"Are you cold?"

Musheng glanced at her sidelong. Hai Ge, with her pale face, shook her head and clung even tighter to Musheng's arm, "That man is watching us!"

She had her head lowered, buried in Musheng's shoulder. If Musheng wasn't a bit short, with Hai Ge's height of over 1.7 meters in heels, she probably would have wished to fall into Musheng's arms.

Musheng rolled her eyes. To think she dared to venture out alone, being this scared. Musheng wondered what was going through her mind.

By now, they were getting closer to the direction of the sleazy man. Besides being short and frail, the man's features also made him look sleazy, with slightly squinted eyes—no wonder he had stooped to stalking women in the middle of the night.

Musheng just sneered at him with a sidelong glance. Hai Ge was so frightened she didn't dare to open her eyes. As they passed by him, the sleazy man looked around and, seeing no one else, summoned the evil within and suddenly sprung forward, trying to grab Hai Ge's arm.

Musheng's eyes narrowed, and with a forceful move of her hand, she twisted Hai Ge's body in a different direction, positioning herself between Hai Ge and the sleazy man, and then swiftly delivered a kick!

With a "bang", Musheng's movement was too quick to be seen clearly. All that could be seen was the afterimage of the sleazy man being flung against a streetlight on the side of the road and then crashing heavily to the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

As for Musheng, she wore a light smile, her expression playful and flirtatious. When Hai Ge opened her eyes to the sound, she saw through the scattered streetlight the girl gripping her arm, carefree and unrestrained, exuding an indescribable charm. That faint smile seemed to bewitch her.

At that moment, a term unexpectedly arose in Hai Ge's heart—"a lifetime of charm"!

She didn't know how such a term could fit a girl so perfectly, without feeling out of place. Musheng had already let go of the dazed Hai Ge, "It's okay now, there's no more danger."

Hai Ge came to her senses and saw the sleazy man on the ground, unable to even let out a scream of pain. He was holding his stomach, emitting only hoarse, whimpering sounds. Hai Ge was amazed, taking a step or two back and subconsciously glancing towards Musheng.

"Next time you go out, be more aware. You won't always run into someone else around."

Musheng spoke softly and didn't explain the situation, while Hai Ge's face flushed red with shame. "I got into an argument with someone tonight and acted impulsively..."

Before Hai Ge could finish, Musheng glanced at her with a look that carried a meaning Hai Ge couldn't understand, which made her heart skip a beat. Suddenly, she stepped forward and grabbed Musheng's hand, "What's your name? Do you have a cell phone? I... I want to repay you!" She felt somewhat ashamed and bowed her head to hide her nervousness, only to hear Musheng's indifferent reply, "My name is Musheng. I don't have a cell phone, and there's no need for repayment. Also, I'm leaving now, do you plan to stay here?"

Hai Ge was a bit disappointed by Musheng's response but had no choice other than to follow Musheng out.

Musheng, playing the good Samaritan for once, went all the way and escorted Hai Ge to a hotel on another, busier street. As for why the other party didn't go home, she didn't bother to ask. Instead, it was Hai Ge who, unable to get Musheng's cell phone, could only leave a note with her own phone number. Musheng didn't care and just pocketed the note before leaving.

Walking on the road and fiddling with the note, Musheng suddenly remembered that Hai Ge had offered her a sum of money as a reward. Due to her instinctive refusal that stemmed from her way of doing things, it wasn't until this moment that she remembered she was no longer the person who never looked at price tags when making purchases. This Musheng was, in fact, very poor!

Musheng pinched her face and sighed, "Serves you right for playing cool, you deserve to be poor!"

Because of the incident with Hai Ge, by the time Musheng got home, it was already 9 o'clock in the evening. When she reached her house and knocked on the door, she could still hear the sound of laughter and chatter inside, suggesting that there were quite a few people there.

Musheng was puzzled, and when the door opened, she saw a strange girl.

The girl, about sixteen or seventeen, seemed very young and innocent, with a pretty face. She looked at Musheng with confusion, "Who are you?"

Musheng smiled and didn't answer her, but went straight into the house. The girl immediately tried to stop her from behind, "Hey, who are you? Why are you entering someone else's home like that?"

The small living room was in full view, and Musheng quickly entered to see the familiar figure lounging on the sofa with legs crossed – her brother, whom she had only seen for the first time today after several days swirling in her memory.

His hairstyle seemed ridiculous, one of those messy spikes popular among young guys that Musheng found irksome. Some strands fell over his forehead, prominent and eye-catching. Had his face not been delicate enough, he wouldn't have pulled off the look at all.

Feeling someone grab her arm, Musheng glanced at the girl, "Do I need your permission to enter my own home?"

The girl looked at her in surprise, as if realizing something, and immediately released Musheng's arm. Blushing with embarrassment, she said, "Ah, are you Nanji's sister, Musheng?"

The seventeen-year-old boy lounging on the couch with an indifferent smile waved the girl over, "Xiaojuan, come here, why bother with her?"

With a voice hoarse from puberty yet not unpleasant to hear, the girl named Xiaojuan glanced at Musheng sheepishly before walking over. Ma Nanji wrapped an arm around Xiaojuan and gazed at Musheng provocatively.

Xiaojuan, her face as red as if it would bleed, tried to push Ma Nanji away, but remembering how hard she worked to become Ma Nanji's girlfriend, she didn't dare. She just felt a bit embarrassed in front of his sister. She looked up at Musheng and noticed that she had already seated herself in a single-seat sofa on the other side, her long legs lazily crossed on the coffee table, her arm resting on the side of the sofa, supporting her head as she asked indifferently, "Where's mom?" without even glancing at them.

Xiaojuan was taken aback and noticed, looking at Musheng's profile, that she bore a resemblance to Ma Nanji, especially from the side.

What was more, there was an unmistakable presence about Musheng lounging in the couch, an air of cool detachment mixed with a touch of laziness and a soft indifference that was difficult to detect – the squinted eyes, even more reminiscent of Ma Nanji. However, in terms of demeanor, Ma Nanji couldn't hold a candle to her.

Just then, Ma Nanji slammed the table with force, startling the somewhat distracted Xiaojuan nearly out of her wits!

"How dare you show your face, coming back so late. No one made dinner, so mom had to go out and buy me food. And you still have the nerve to ask!"
