Derek, panting, looked stunned to see Amelia there. He didn't expect to bump into her at his friend's party, where the guests weren't her age or from the same faculty. He glanced at Ella, then back at his friends, looking confused.

"Amelia?" He seemed at a loss for words. He wiped his sweaty face and tried to tidy his appearance, though it was pointless since the pizza restaurant logo wasn't going to disappear with a swipe. Embarrassed yet trying to stay confident, he asked, "What are you doing here?"

"You guys know each other?" Alanna asked cheerfully. "Wow, you've got quite a network. Did I miss something? Where did you two meet?"

"Oh, it's just— I met Amelia at the swim competition," Derek answered awkwardly. He licked his lips and took a deep breath. "I just didn't expect to see her at your party."

Alanna threw an arm around Marie and Amelia, shaking them slightly. "Marie's my little sister, she's friends with Amelia."
