Nick's Regret

Nick sat across from Aaron at the coffee shop on the ground floor. He slammed the table without thinking, spilling his coffee. But Nick didn't care; he was still in shock that Mr. Chen had suddenly discarded Aaron.

"So you were basically sold to become the Chen family's son?" Nick asked, eyes wide. "And then just tossed aside because you wouldn't marry Margaux? That's ridiculous. Haven't you shown good performance all this time?"

"Enough. Don't say I was sold, that makes it sound like you're insulting my mom. You know she was struggling financially and couldn't bear to see me without a clear future because she couldn't pay for college," Aaron replied calmly. He knew Nick meant no harm. He patiently asked the janitor for a cloth to clean up the spilled coffee.
