STORY 3: The King's Daughter

 Once upon a time, there lived three beautiful princesses in a beautiful castle. The princesses were triplet and their mother died giving birth to them. The king loved them more than anything in the world. The king had always wished that his daughters would be the most happiest in the world and that they would meet the most amazing prince that would love then as much as he loved them.

Everyday the king watched his daughters grow, he would be filled with happiness and at the same time with an unknown sadness. The king wanted a person that was worth it to be his daughter's husband so because of this the king never told anyone their names.

The tale of the unnamed princesses rang far and wide to all kingdoms both far and near. They all wondered why the king never told anyone the names of his daughters.

When the princesses were now of age , the king intend for them to marry. Many young men came to woo these princesses in hope of being the king one day. But this was easier thought than done for the king had a condition.

"Whoever wants to marry my daughters must first tell me their names, all three of them, and that person will be the heir to this throne and he shall have the liberty of choosing any one of the princess to be his wife. Young men, I hope you all don't disappoint me. Let us see how clever you are. This challenge starts now and will end when there is a winner. Goodluck!". The king said and left the crowd in awe.

"How are we supposed to know their names, nobody has ever heard the king call them by their name nor do the maids and guards know of this too. For sure, it won't be easy to marry them ". One of the suitors said.

"There is no time limit, we just have to look for a way to know it".

Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months. After two months no one could figure out the names of these princess and most suitors gave up,most, except one.

His name was Osas. Osas was the son of the village palm wine taper and he has always be looked down on. People call him a lazy man as he refused to join the men in farming and hunting.

Osas had spent the last two months learning of the princesses routine and he had tailed them, day and night. Now, it was time to carry out his plan.

The princesses likes to go to the village garden at noon and play there, today he was going to get them to say their names.

But they were always careful, they usually come with guards and maids who acts as an hawk to prevent anyone from going in when they were there.

So, Osas came before the princesses and he waited for the princesses to come in a hidden spot. After a while, they came and began their usual routine. As they were doing that Osas let go of his bait. It was a white bunny which was rare in their land and as that, the princess hadn't seen anything like it.

The bunny ran to the closest princess and touched her leg. The princess screamed in fright, "Ahhhh!!!!!!!!".

"Isoken! Are you alright?".The other princesses asked from afar when they heard her scream.

Seeing that it was a cute thing she haven't seen before, Isoken was amazed and she called out to her sisters, "Ivie! Omo! Come and see".

The girls ran to meet her and they too were sure to see the cute little thing, in wonder and excitement they played with it until the maids came to remind them it was time to go home. They took the bunny with them and left.

Osas finally came out of his hiding spot and he was delighted. "Isoken, Ivie, Omo! Special names and now I have won". He said in excitement and waited until the princesses had gone far before leaving too.

The next day, the king summoned the people as someone had informed him that one of the suitors knows the names of the princesses. The village was in uproar and surprise.

___How did this person know?

___Maybe it is just false news.

The people all had different thoughts as they rushed to the palace .

"My people, it has been two months since I announced the requirements for anyone who wants to marry my daughter and sadly no one could get it, until now. Please, young man, come forward and tell us their names". The king said .

As Osas walked forward everyone couldn't help but chuckle.

___This lazy man, how can he know their names, he is just bluffing __.

They all thought Osas was trying to make himself known.

"May you live long, Your Highness. Yes, I know the names of your daughters ". Osas began.

"They have beautiful names. Starting from the right is Ivie, then Isoken in centre and Omo is last. These are the names of the princesses. "

The king was shocked and he stared at the young man in awe. 

After a while he asked ,"Young man, how did you figure it out".

Osas laughed and told everyone how he did it. They were all surprised at his cleverness.

"Good! Very good. The gods have chosen to bless me with a wise man as a king. My son, per the agreement, you can choose any one of my daughters to be your bride. So who do you choose?".

Osas was over the moon, he, the son of a palm wine tapper is going to be the next king and marry a princess. The gods have favoured him.

"I choose princess Isoken to be my wife". He said as he looked at her.

"Princess Isoken, do you agree to marry

this man?". The king asked.

In shyness Isoken answered with a yes.

"My Son, what is your name?".

"Osas, Your Highness".

"Osas, by the power vested on me as the king of this land, I crown you Prince Osas, the heir apparent to the throne and the husband of my daughter, princess Isoken. May you live happily forever ". The king announced.

"Isė". The people chorused as they clapped.

The other princesses choosed their husband and everyone lived happily ever after ..
