"At least answer me this. Where is Penumbra?" Lucy questioned to Odyssey, who was ordering a meal from a squid demi-human in a maid outfit. "Give me a minute. I haven't eaten since the ball." Odyssey grumbled with a dismissive wave before finally settling on an algae salad.
Time had ticked on and Ami, wanting to spend more time with her 'future husband', had asked Lucy to leave her and Tuli alone for awhile. Luckily Odyssey had wanted to speak with the demon any way and took her to their favourite spot in the city.
"The 'Cuddle Fish Mer-maid café'... Out of all the places the 'head maid' could visit, you chose a maid café." Lucy grumbled under her breath as she wrapped a tentacle around a bubble of warm tea.
"What? It's not everyday you get to be treated like royalty." The siren smiled, digging into their salad of algae. "Moving on from this... Sad, sad place. What do you actually know about Penumbra?" The demon questioned.
Odyssey wiped a bit of food of their mouth and explained rather bluntly; "She's a very special person to me."
"Oh, a person? That is rich. And where is she now?"
Odyssey stared at Lucy for a few seconds with a confused look. "She's not with you?"
"I'm just here to get her back. From what the 'Princess' said, she fled to the ocean to reclaim her strength."
"Uhm... You know that's not the princess, right? It's something possessing the her body." They responded in a matter of fact tone with a raised brow. Lucy didn't feel like explaining that she accidentally killed Dropllet, but decided to at least find out what Odyssey actually was.
"Tell me... O maid of Royals, what are you truly? A demon? A thing from the void? A lost spirit taught in the ways of old?"
"Nah. I'm a god. Same as her." They shrugged before taking another bite of their food. "You? A god? To think you would claim such a thing worse enough, but to call Penumbra one as well is an insult." The demon laughed, waving away his claim.
"But she is a god?"
"No. That title was stripped away from the Divine Comedians a long time ago. None of us are gods."
"First. I can already tell you're not a god. You're waaaay to weak. Second. Once a god, always a god." The siren sighed, trailing a finger along the table. Lucy felt her blood begin to boil at the claim. Who was this broken voiced siren to tell her what she was.
"Okay then, my dear god. To what Pantheon do you belong to?" Lucy questioned, shoving her bubble of tea to the side, practically leaning over the table. "Uh... I belong to the Voidless?" They answered with a small grin.
"The voidless? I vaguely remember Auntie Parfait talking about them... She said that the Voidless were nothing but beings of broken stars acting like gods with little consequence. In mortal terms, your group is nothing more then street thugs." The demon smirked.
Odyssey rolled their eyes at the claim before speaking in a more dry voice. "You're related to Penumbra, yet you choose such petty tactics to insult me."
"So if you are truly a god from the void, then why are you masquerading as a maid on a distant star? Isn't this beneath you? Don't you have some cosmic duty to do?"
"I... Uh... Well. I have many reasons to be here... But maybe... I sorta, kinda uh... Got sealed away here a long time ago?" They awkwardly laughed, tapping their webbed hands against the table at the admission.
Though once she heard the words 'sealed away', she quickly gathered who they were. "You're The Queen Deep Beneath The Waves, aren't you?" Lucy asked bluntly. Odyssey quickly shushed her, trying to avoid the attention of the other patrons and staff. "Not so loud, girly."
The demon couldn't help but feel somewhat smug as she took a small sip of her tea before speaking in a condescending tone with a hint of playfulness to it; "So if I may guess your life for a moment. You, A 'Queen', have been trapped on this star for what I assume has been countless centuries.
You most likely kept a part of yourself away and used it to possess this girl's body to find a way to break your seal. But you only just realised in, I would say, last four months that you had to have a sacrifice to open it. So you have been worming your way into the royal family's close circle too ultimately stop them from renewing your seal.
Am I correct?"
Odyssey rolled her eyes at the way Lucy ever so casually ruined all the mystery of their plan. "I don't like you."
"Well I am sorry, dear. But in less than six days the world will end. So I neither have the time, energy or patience to deal with such inconsequential nonsenses. I have no time for anything really." She sighed, finishing up her drink.
"Have you two finished your meal?" The squid mer-maid said in a cutesy voice as she came over with a tray. "Huh? Yeah." Odyssey quickly passed her empty plate over, still staring at Lucy. "So how will you be paying?" The maid asked.
"I have no currency from this world." Lucy whispered, motioning for her acquaintance to pay. But they gave a sly grin and whispered back; "Close your eyes for a moment."
With little warning, Odyssey pulled the maid in by her black tentacled hair as their spiral eyes seemed to twirl and dance with life. Once they let her go, the maid quietly walked away without another word.
"A hypnotising eye? I have one of those, you know?" The demon mused, though the siren gave a playful wink as they turned back to her. "She's not hypnotised..."
Suddenly, the maid fell limp, muttering incoherent nonsense about something and everything. "I guess you-" Before they had a chance to smugly brag about there power, Lucy interrupted with another flat explanation.
"You overloaded her mind with infinite knowledge of everything and anything. Though why would you even do that? She was just a bystander?" She asked as the two headed for the door. "I just wanted to show off. After all, this is the only chance we'll get to know each other."
"Oh, And how do you know?" Before Lucy could get a proper answer, Odyssey showed their phone and pulled up a livestream of 'Dropllet' announcing her wedding was tomorrow.
"And the prophecy comes true tomorrow as well, I assume?"
"You... Take the fun out of everything, Demon."
