"The threads of secrecy began to unravel, and the whispers of truth started to echo through the shadows."
Chapter # 07
" Aveline, I'm busy, I'll call you later. " Standing outside the night-out restaurant she was reading Alex's text message. After what that mysterious caller told her, she was continuously trying to call him but he was ignoring it and just a few seconds ago she received his message. She didn't want to go inside because Alex's actions were making her believe on what that mysterious caller said.
Her phone beeped and she received a message from that mysterious number " Don't waste time, Aveline. Be brave Nd go inside, my pineapple 🍍. " Aveline joined her brows in confusion and looked around " is he here too ??? " She muttered
Just as she was taking a look at her surroundings, she received another message. " Yes, pineapple, I'm here too. Now go inside, and please don't cry too much. You can't waste your tears for that bastard. Ok ?? "
Aveline gritted her teeth and typed " Ugh, just fuckkkkk oofffffffff " She replied and slipped her phone in her clutch. Taking a deep breath and summoning all her courage, she stepped inside, hoping to encounter something positive, unlike what that mysterious caller had said.
Inside the Night-Out restaurant, everyone was engrossed in their own activities. Aveline moved slowly, scanning the crowd, hoping not to spot the one person she didn't want to see. Unfortunately, the mysterious caller's words were proven true as her eyes locked onto her fiancé, Alex, sitting at a corner table with a girl.
Her heart sank, that mysterious caller was right. From the side she glanced at the girl's face and it was the same girl " He was actually right all the time, he always sends Alex's pictures with this girl and I never believed him. Oh why !!!! "
She wanted to cry about how he could cheat on her but this was not the right time to cry. He has been fooling her and making her dance on his tune but now it's her time . " Don't cry sweetheart, just be brave," she taught herself and let out a long breath.
"Believe me, Christy, I only love you. You are the only one who's important to me," the man in his early thirties said, holding Christy's hands under the soft lights of the Night-Out restaurant.
Christy, a blonde girl in her early twenties, sat before him in a purple mini dress.
Christy blinked her eyes, raising her brows. "If that's true, then why don't you marry me, Alex ?"Christy asked, skepticism coloring her voice. Alex let out a sigh. "Christy, I will marry you. Trust me, you're my true love. It's not what it seems. That girl was just trying to take a chance on me. You know that I'm handsome and adding to this I'm rich. That's why girls like her always chase after me."
"Okay! So that girl was chasing you, then what about me?!" Aveline growled from behind them, capturing the attention of everyone in the restaurant.
Christy's mind was in turmoil, torn between believing him again or not. Just then, they heard another girl's growling voice from behind them. Both Christy and Alex turned their heads to see where the voice was coming from.
There was standing a tall, slim girl, her ocean blue eyes burning in fire, glaring intensely at the man. Her gaze was so fierce that it seemed as if her eyes would pop out if she continued glaring like that.
" Aveline!! " Alex muttered
Christy furrowed her brows, while the man gulped hard, his nervousness becoming evident. With furious steps, the girl approached him, standing in front of him. "What? Why are you sweating now?!" Aveline yelled, observing his forehead becoming damp with his own sweat.
" Who is she ??? " Christy asked Alex.
Aveline raised her brow, putting mocking expressions on her face. " Oh, she is asking something, wouldn't you like to introduce me to her and care to tell me who she is ?? " Aveline said, gesturing towards her.
Alex was all stunned, he was standing still as if his soul left his body right there in that moment. Aveline sighed " No ?? Then allow me to introduce myself " she turned and faced Christy " Hi, I'm Aveline, Alex's fiancée. And you ?? " Aveline mockingly introduced herself to Christy.
" Wait wait!! What is going on here ?? Mr Alex, Care to explain??? What is she talking about ??? " Christy inquired, her mind shaking up in disbelief.
Panic consumed Alex's face as he desperately tried to figure out how to handle this mess. Aveline smirked " Ah ! Let him think about how he can escape and fool us again . And you listen to me Miss whatever.." Aveline said, catching the attention of the girl.
" Look at my engagement ring " saying that she showed her engagement ring in her ring finger " see !!! I think this is a better proof . And I think you should vanish yourself from here , as I want to have a conversation with my fiancé" Aveline further added .
"What are you talking about ?? He is my boyfriend and I'm on a date with him right now, can't you see ?? " Christy said, she cannot believe this girl, she could be one of them who always tries to take a chance on her boyfriend.
" Hold your tongue suckhead!!! He is my fiancé and we are getting married soon " Aveline yelled
Alex realized everything was falling apart. He cursed his luck, as he had been caught by his girlfriend last night and now he was caught again by his fiancée. He jumped in and said, "You two are misunderstanding things. It's not what you both think."
Christy turned to him, her anger escalating. "Then tell me the fucking truth. Is she your damn fiancée?" Christy yelled. Alex's mind raced; he had to do something, he couldn't handle both of them at the same time. 'Choose Aveline bro, she is tough . Christy is a fool . I can make things up with her later, otherwise both will slip by my hands ' he thought.
"Listen, Aveline, I can explain everything. You just need to believe me," He ignored Christy and stepped towards Aveline.
"Oh, so that means you know her!" Christy's lips parted in disbelief. This sorry-ass guy was just giving her an explanation a little while ago, claiming he had no relation with the girl she caught him with last night. And now he has a fiancée who suddenly shows up like this?
"Of course! Why wouldn't I know her? She's my fiancée," Alex said bluntly, looking Christy in the face. Aveline folded her arms across her chest, she was burning in anger, she wanted to cry but at the same time she wanted to beat this jerk to the ground. She looked at Christy and couldn't help but feel sorry for the girl caught up in Alex's web of lies.
Alex turned to Aveline. "Aveline, sweetheart, I don't know who she is. She's been relentlessly forcing me to say I love her and chasing me everywhere. I just—" this was the same explanation he was giving Christy just a few moments ago.
" What ??? I was chasing you ? I was forcing you. Isn't it the same words you were telling me ?? Huh " Christy said in disbelief, her eyes sparked with tears. " Oh just shut up!! First of all you were forcing yourself on me before and now you are acting like we have something in between us in front of my fiancée. " He was speaking lies bluntly without a stutter.
Tears started to wet her rosy cheeks, she picked up her purse and said " You such a jerk man. I'm lucky that I didn't get into any permanent relationship with you or else I'll be on her place, regretting on the biggest decision of my life"
" Just fuck off you gold-digging bitch ! " Alex retorted. Christy smiled bitterly " Yeah, I'll be happy to get fuck off , instead of getting use." with that she went out to the restaurant while crying.
Seeing her going he stepped forward to Aveline "Aveline, trust me, she begged me to have dinner with her here …"
"Shut up! You jerk!" Aveline yelled, interrupting him. "I overheard your conversation. You've been cheating on me all along. I was a fool to believe you ! You were just like the other people who used me "
" Aveline listen to me …." Before he could say something Aveline cut him off again " What is there left to listen, Alex?? You ended everything"
"Aveline…."
" What Aveline, Alex??? You know what I was thinking that you are different but no I was wrong you are just like others who just keep relationships with me because of my father's immensive wealth . Dad was always right, he always warned me to stay away from you but I disobeyed him. I only believed you because I loved you, I left his wealth." Tears welled up in her eyes
" What!!!!!" Alex exclaimed then he realised he was standing in front of Aveline he quickly shutted his mouth.
" Feeling shocked??? Don't cry but it's true, I'm living with my friend in her apartment, I'm kicking off my time using that money I got from selling my some expensive things, Alex. I didn't tell you about this because you told me that you are having loose in business. You need money just because of it, I kept my mouth shut. I really don't want to bother you ..But what did you do, Alex?
I have left my luxury lifestyle to have a peaceful and lovely life with you but what did you do, Alex !!! You destroyed everything "
Alex looked at Aveline, his face filled with remorse and guilt. "I... I know you felt bad after seeing me with another girl but trust me, Aveline, I don't love her, there is nothing between me and her." Aveline arched her right eyebrow.
His shoulders slumping as he struggled to find the right words. "I never wanted to hurt you. "
"I overheard your conversation, Alex. These all are the same words you were telling her ." She paused and shook her head, a mix of disappointment and disbelief evident in her eyes. "You thought you could have your cake and eat it too? That's not how relationships work, Alex. You can't play with people's emotions like that."
" Aveline you don't know the truth. She was forcing herself on me, she begged me for love. You don't even know that she tried to suicide just to be my girlfriend. I thought I can make her understand that I'm not hers by understanding her feelings too " Alex nodded, his expression filled with regret.
"But You're right. I was foolish to think I could juggle two relationships without consequences. I never intended to hurt either of you, but I see now how much damage I've caused."
Aveline's anger began to subside, replaced by a deep sadness. "Do you even love me, Alex? Or was I just another pawn in your game?"
Alex's voice cracked as he spoke. "Aveline, I do love you. I've just made terrible choices, and I've hurt the one I care about most. I don't deserve your forgiveness, but I want you to know that my feelings for you were genuine."
Aveline shook her head in denial and looked at him, tears welling up in her eyes. "Love shouldn't be built on lies and deceit, Alex, and you are still continuously lying to me ."
"Aveline, let me explain myself!" Alex pleaded helplessly.
"Spare me this freaking explanation. You're just an asshole. I don't need you anymore." With that, she pulled the engagement ring off her finger and threw it at him. "Keep your shit, man. I deserve better than this."
With that she turned and about to leave, Alex grabbed her hand " Listen Aveli…. " He was trying to make up things but Aveline aggressively freed her hand from his holding. She picked up the glass of water from the table and made him face reality by throwing it on his face.
Alex's face was drenched, his expression one of complete shock. He couldn't comprehend what just happened. He was struggling to accept that this wasn't his innocent, calm, gentle, and naïve fiancée who used to believe every word he said.
He heard Aveline growl, "" Listen You Dummbass Alex !!!! ENOUGH!!"
She pointed her index finger in warning style " Never ever dare to touch me again, or show yourself to me ever again, or else it'll be the worst for you... Got it?" With those words, she walked towards the exit.
Alex was still in dazed what just happened to him. He wanted to go after her but her last words rang in his mind like a danger alarm. Also she left her everything for him but if she went back to her father again, she would surely never allow him to come back in her life again. Alex shrugged off the idea and looked at his surroundings, everyone was watching him. He felt a bit ashamed and went to the restaurant's restroom.
Outside in the restaurant parking lot, Aveline stood there, staring blankly at the ground. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she let out a breath. She had just faced betrayal, her heart aching with pain. She placed a hand on her chest, taking deep breaths to calm herself down. She then vigorously rubbed her eyes. "It's okay, Aveline. It's nothing new to you. Another man played with your feelings just because of fucking money."
As she watched her reflection in the side mirror of her car, she again let out a breath and forced a smile even though sadness was clearly visible in her eyes. At that moment, she felt someone watching her actions. She looked around but saw no one. She scoffed as she guessed who it could be and sat in her car, starting the engine and driving away.
Unbeknownst to her, just beyond the row of parked cars, a figure lurked in the shadows. Tall and mysterious, partially concealed by a black hoodie and mask, he watched her car disappear into the distance. His diamond blue eyes held a mysteriousness, as if he had witnessed something more than just a broken engagement
