Chapter # 13

" Kara, what are you doing here with this waste bin trolley? " Adeline was hearing their conversation when she heard a familiar female voice calling out her name. She turned and looked at the woman who was standing near her, dressed in a blue uniform that was different from her own. The woman had short blonde hair tied up in a neat bun, and her overall appearance was professional and tidy.

Adeline felt a sudden rush of nervousness, but she managed to keep her face soft and calm. She smiled, feeling amazed by the unexpected encounter " Oh Niya " She said, making her tone a little amazed.

Adeline glanced at the trolley then looked at her " How much work you do. Keeping a clinic clean is a lot of hard work, and I know how much busy you are"

Niya nodded in agreement " Yes, it can be very exhausting but I love my job, and I take pride in keeping the clinic clean and hygienic. But why are you here with this waste bin trolley?? " She again repeated her question and arched her brows.

Adeline licked her lips then looked at Niya sympathetically. " I can imagine how much work you do. You are always so diligent and hardworking. I wish everyone was as dedicated as you." Niya blushed at the compliment and smiled but her smile dropped when Adeline added the word 'But'

"But, Dr. Danielle feels that in this clinic, only she works diligently with dedication and effort, while everyone else displays laziness and carelessness towards their work. "

Niya joined her brows in confusion " Kara, what happened?? Why are you saying this ??? I agree that Dr Danielle is quite strict but her strictness is just for her clinic and her patients well being" Niya explained, unable to understand her sudden unlikeness towards Danielle.

" Yup, you are absolutely right, her strictness is for her patients and the clinic's well-being but not for us. However, it often seems as though she views us more like robots than human beings. Whenever she gives us an order, we're expected to fulfill it immediately within the commanded deadline . Otherwise, she would label us as lazy and irresponsible, which is insane !!" Adeline whispered, speaking softly and keeping her voice low.

Niya pursed her lips, lightly nodding her head in agreement " Hmmm, you are right!! But you didn't tell me what you were doing here with the trolley . It is my responsibility. What if the Doctor gets to know about this ?? "

" Yeah actually Niya, that's what I'm telling you . When you were cleaning the upper floor, Dr Danielle asked me why the trash bin had not been emptied yet. Obviously, it was your duty but you hadn't done that yet. So, I hesitated for a moment and I didn't know what to say because you were still cleaning tge upper floor. Then I had to lie that while you were cleaning, you had put some bacteria-infected items in the trash bin without wearing gloves, thinking it wouldn't be an issue, which led to a rash on your hand." Adeline fabricated a story, putting on the most innocent expression on her face.

The woman looked alarmed " What I got infected!!! " Niya exclaimed " Kara, I didn't get infected by anything then why did you lie to Doctor about me." She hurriedly asked in disbelief, she felt herself in a danger zone .

Adeline gently placed her hand on Niya's shoulder, offering comfort. " Relax!! Niya. I didn't do anything wrong. You know how much the doctor insists on being on time for everything. It's quite shocking how she treats those who don't follow her strict punctuality rule, even if there's a valid reason for being late.

This morning, she made me feel very embarrassed because I arrived late. I tried to explain that one of my close family members had a car accident, and I was with them last night, which is why I was late today. But she didn't show any understanding or care about what I said. Instead, she called my explanation weak and insulted me by saying I'm lazy, irresponsible, and lacking in effort."

"Oh" Niya expressed empathy for her

"When she asked me about you, I lied because you had been cleaning the upper floor for so long. If I had told her that you were still cleaning the upper floor, she would have insulted you for being lazy. Your delay in cleaning would have made her forget how much you care about cleanliness and how your efforts have made the entire clinic clean." Adeline wrapped things up and added a hint of sympathy while talking to her.

Niya gazed at the floor, looking confused thinking about something.

As Niya appeared lost in thoughts, Adeline noticed and quickly tried to regain her attention " Niya, I did what I did to help you. If you think I did something wrong, I'll go to Doctor and tell her that I lied about the rash on your hand. And you can punish me for that " Adeline said, turning as if ready to leave.

Niya stopped Adeline by holding her hand gently. She smiled softly and said, "No, Kara, it's fine. You actually helped me by saving me from embarrassment. I can imagine her getting angry at me because of my laziness. She has already done it once before." Adeline smiled as she watched Niya become anxious and scared, thinking about the embarrassment.

"You are such a sweet and hardworking person, Niya . And there is nothing wrong if you're thinking I did something wrong. It's okay, I can tell the doctor that I lied to her, and you don't need to worry about punishment. I will take all the blame on me." Adeline blinked her eyes innocently, indirectly telling Niya that if Kara got punished by Danielle, it would be all her fault as Kara just tried to save her.

" No Kara, there is no need for that . What you did was actually right. Thank you so much, Kara, it means a lot to me, and also thank you so much for praising my hard work " She said, falling for her sweet talk.

Adeline's smile turned wicked as she continued " I'll take care of the garbage outside. Just work calmly and don't worry. If anyone asks about the rash on your hand after this, say that yes, there were rashes but you applied an ointment and it got better. And for Dr Danielle, she won't ask you about the rash because she doesn't care about their workers much " Adeline said and patted her shoulder as the victim was caught in her web now.

Niya nodded in agreement " Once again Thank you so much Kara, you are always so helpful "

" It's the least I can do. I appreciate all the hard work you do around here. If you ever need any help, just let me know. And let's keep this between us. We don't want anyone else to worry about it, right? Don't we? "

Niya smiled, feeling extremely grateful that she helped her "I feel lucky to have such supportive colleagues like you, "

Adeline smiled ' And I feel lucky to have such brainless colleagues like you ' She said to herself and made her way towards the exit.

Adeline smiled mischievously, feeling the relief in her heart that she covered up the things well. " Good job!!! Adiee "
