A Huge Threat

Meanwhile the same could not be said of what was going on in the other part of the house.

"You mean that cripple was still in the dining room when you left?"

"Mmm-hmm, do you have a problem with that?"

"How can you leave her alone with them?"

Mrs Bertrand stared at Regina as if she was looking at a joke. "What would you have had me do? And in what capacity was I to ask her to leave, hmm, tell me?"

Regina had nothing to say as what the cook said was the truth. She had no right to ask her to leave when she wasn't Mr Fitz. Besides, it was Mr Brandon himself who asked her to stay, from what she heard.

"Arrgh! Why does she get to eat with them on the same table?" Regina kicked the chair in the staff dining room and instantly yelped in pain.

Mrs Bertrand, the cook, shook her head in pity. "You'd better come to terms with the obvious. I wonder what you are so angry about?"

"You want to know what I'm so angry about?" Regina snapped at the woman who looked so unruffled that she wanted to smack her silly face.

"We've been working here for years and have not as much as shared even a drink of water in the same room with Mr Brandon. Why is her case different?"

"Is that the only reason?" Mrs Bert asked, giving Regina a suspicious look.

"What else do you think might be my reason for being angry?"

"You know best," Mrs Bert threw back. Everyone in the mansion knows that Regina was very ambitious and had her eyes on Master Caden. She had always believed that one day she will get married to him. So seeing a more beautiful woman in the house must have caused her some panic which was so obvious from her behavior.

"Maybe it's because the young master likes her," Mrs Bertrand said resignedly in reply to Regina's initial question.

"You can't be serious. Mrs Bert," smirked Regina. "The young master has never liked anyone, including his guardian, Mr Russell. How can he suddenly like a total stranger?"

Shrugging her shoulders, Mrs Bertrand went to the fridge to get herself a bottle of water. 'Well, I'm not under any obligation to convince you,' she muttered to herself.

She alone knew what she witnessed in that dining room and she was not going to waste her breath explaining to the senseless egoistic Regina, how the whole family seemed to have accepted the new nanny.

Even Mr Brandon seemed to be protecting her from his brother's claws.

"So you agree with me now," Regina said when the cook didn't say anything further to refute her.

"I'm sure, that cripple must have used some despicable means to get Mr Brandon to employ her," she scoffed.

What was more annoying was that she also got to eat dinner with Master Caden whom she had been crushing on for years without any encouragement from him.

All he ever did whenever she tried to warm up to him and subtly express her feelings was to compliment her looks and nothing else.

And just like Mrs Bert had rightly thought, she was therefore threatened by the sudden appearance of the new nanny who she had to admit was a dropdead beauty even with her disabilities.

Her face was so flawless that she was sure she must have done several plastic surgeries to get that look.

But another fact made her discard that idea. If she had such money to do plastic surgery, she wouldn't be working as a nanny.

On the other hand, who knows what her true agenda was, afterall, not everyone would willingly agree to take care of an autistic child considering the complications involved.

She is definitely here for something,' she concluded within heeself. It's either to seduce Mr Brandon or Master Caden. Whoever her target was, she, Regina Horsefall, was not going to let her succeed.

Maybe if something happens to her face, she will not be able to seduce poor Master Caden. If he ever decides to condescend to chose any servant, it can only be her.

She glanced up and saw Mrs Bert studying her suspiciously and instantly adjusted her thoughts.

'If I do anything now, everyone will know it's me since they all know I don't like her.

I have to come up with a flawless plan to get rid of her without connecting it to myself.'

'And I think I know just what to do,' she said to herself after thinking for a few minutes and was about hurrying off to her room when she remembered she had to deal with Mrs Bert's suspicions first.

"Since I can't do anything to change anything, I think I'll follow your example and just accept things the way they are."

"That's better," Mrs Bert said nonchalantly.

As soon as she got to her room, she went straight to her drawer and rummaged through it.

"It must be somewhere here. I'm sure I kept it in this particular drawer," she said as she pulled out the drawer and emptied its content on her bed.

She has to quickly get rid of any potential rival… no, that cripple was not a potential rival, she was already a full blown rival and she must leave.

She breathed in relief when she finally saw the complementary card after meticulously going through the items one after the other.

She whipped out her phone and typed in the number she never thought she would call.

"Hello, Ms Beaumont, this is Regina speaking," she said as soon as the call connected.

After the person on the other line seemed to have recollected who she was, Regina continued.

"Yes, Ma'am. It's me. Do you remember what you asked me to do for you some time ago?"

"Yes, yes…" Regina replied after the other party said some things.

"Someone has suddenly showed up and she's a huge threat." She emphasized the word "huge" with a drawl.
