As Jace pulled into the driveway of his mansion, a deep sense of loss settled over him.
The house that was usually filled with warmth and life, and which always excited him to return to, now seemed strangely empty without Grace. It was as though her absence had cast a cold shadow over the whole building, even the familiar walls appeared somehow more distant.
His brother, Caden met him at the hallway leading to the bedrooms. "How's Charles?"
"With mom in his room," Caden replied. He didn't need to be told his brother didn't find Grace as his countenance said it all.
"And Marianna hasn't left," he added woefully. It was obvious they were not able to convince the woman to leave the house especially in Jace's absence.
It was as if Jace didn't hear that last part as he directly said, "I'll go see Charles."
He found Rose sitting with Charles on his bed.
