A BASTARD LIKE HIM

Corion laid on the bed, turning to the side, his face twisted in agony. His eyes were closed, his brows furrowed as if he was seeing something unpleasant. I realized he was having a nightmare, a bad one.

His hands gripped the bed sheet tightly and I saw that they were stained with drips of blood. It was then I noticed his claws were extended, digging into his palm. He was going to hurt himself at this rate!

I hurriedly ran to his side, "Your highness?" I called but Corion just released another moan filled with anguish.

Fuck, I don't think he can hear me! "Your highness!" I tried again but he just released another moan.

"No, please, please…" Corion whimpered and it was then I noticed the tears sliding from his face.

"Corion!" I called moving closer towards him, my hands shaking as I reached out to touch him, "Corion, wake up!"

He didn't respond, his body gave a violent shudder as he mubled something incoherent. I shook him again, harder this time around but still he didn't respond.

"No, please, not her….please not her!" Corion pleaded and I froze.

I turned to stare at him only to see a painful expression on his face that tugged at something at my heart. Tears were now flowing from his face and he was gripping the sheet tighter now, at this rate he was going to injure himself.

Deciding this won't do, I climbed over him and shook him again. "Wake up, Corion!" I nearly shouted, desperation creeping into my voice. But it was no use, he continued to trash beneath me.

He wasn't going to wake up this way, I thought to myself as my mind raced searching for something, anything that could snap him out of his nightmare. And then with sudden resolve and hard thinking, I reached up and smacked him hard across his face.

"Wake the fuck up!" I yelled, my hand stinging from the impact.

Corion's eyes finally opened, two pair of green eyes snapped open to meet mine. They were unfocused at first, still clouded with the remnants of the nightmare but as they became focused, his expression twisted. In one swift motion, he grabbed me by my throat and used his weight to roll me over so I was beneath me.

He snarled at me, his claws poised dangerously close to my face, but I was faster. Corion gasped, his rage halting and his expression turning to disbelief as he looked down to where I was pointing a bread knife to the delicate part in his throat.

Ever since that one time in his room, I haven't been stupid to show up to his room unharmed ever since that incident. It won't kill him, but I imagine one quick stab to the jugular will cause enough damage.

"Aneesa?" Corion called me, his voice thick with confusion.

I stared at him, searching his face to see if there was something in his gaze. That dark vampry side of him but all I was met back was just a guy who was just confused.

Slowly, I withdrew the knife away from his neck while eyeing him warily for any sudden movement. Corion sniffed before he reached up to his face with shaky hands which came in contact with his tear streaked face.

Corion sniffed, his expression turning wary as reached up with shaky hands, fingers brushing over his tear streaked cheeks.

"Fuck!" Corion cursed his voice filled with anger that was more directed to himself than to anything else.

"Are you okay?"

Corion's gaze snapped down to mine as if he was really seeing me for the first time. His eyes darted down to our bodies, realization dawning on him about the position we were in. He immediately moved off me quickly, as if I burned him.

"What do you want?" He asked me his voice cold, a stark contrast to the vulnerability I had just seen.

Gee, whatever happened to thank you for waking me up from my nightmare? I thought as I stood up from the bed. "You had a nightmare."

"Still doesn't explain why you are in my room, does it?" Corion asked warily as he raked a hand through his already toussled hair.

Why, I could just…. I bit down on my anger that threatened to surface and instead settled for a glare. "You were about to hurt yourself, so…"

"So you let yourself into my bedroom without my permission?" Corion asked turning to look at me and my heart clenched at the icy glare in them.

I straightened meeting his gaze head on, "Well, there was not really anyone to ask permission from and you didn't answer when I knocked which made me worried."

"Worried? You were worried about me?" Corion asked with a scoff, disbelief tainting his words. "And what right do you have to be worried about me? Who do you think you are to be worried about me? You seem to always be forgetting your place Aneesa, you are mere maid, not my fucking babysitter so what gives you the fucking right to be worried about me?" Corion yelled at me.

His words felt like a slap to the face, I blinked hard as I looked away from him. I understand that it must have been a vulnerable moment for him and it was hard for him that he had let someone see it.

"You were crying in your sleep and I just thought…"

"Thought what exactly? That you could come into my room and play hero?" Corion yelled at me.

I snorted in response, "Right, this was a mistake." I mumbled before I stared up at him with a small smile, "I apologize for that your royal highness, it won't happen again. Enjoy the rest of your night." I said with a curtsy before I brushed past him and headed out of the room as fast as I could.

It was only when I was outside of the bedroom did I finally allow the tears I was holding to slip free. I quickly brushed it away in anger.

No Aneesa! You won't cry and certainly not for a bastard like him! I thought to myself as I glared at the door one last time before heading back to the bedroom.
