CORION POV
I had another nightmare.
I didn't know what triggered it but I had one and it wasn't exactly a good moment for it. I have never felt more vulnerable than I have last night and I hated it. The sight of her family looking at me like I was crazy and the fear in their eyes was something that I was used to, it was the normal reaction I got from everyone around me.
What I hated was the look on Aneesa's face. I could still remember her brown eyes staring up at me with a look that wasn't filled with fear. She had that look of trust on her face despite the fact that I had her pinned beneath me with my hand wrapped around her throat.
I could still feel her pulse beneath my fingertips as she laid beneath me. An image of her pinned beneath me for different reasons suddenly flashed in my mind. Her lips slightly parted, her brown eyes filled with something else other than trust as she completely submits to my will completely.
Fuck! I groaned as I raked a hand through my hair in frustration. The motion did little to ease the knot twisting tighter in my chest. Closing my eyes I willed the image away, I couldn't afford to think like that.
Not to her! I thought to myself.
Still lost in my thoughts, I heard laughter outside. The sound was so melodious, so light and carefree.
The sound tugged something deep inside of me I couldn't resist opening the window to see who it belonged to. The moment I did so, I caught a blur of black. My eyesight adjusted only to see it was a black horse and on it was Aneesa.
It was a sight to truly behold. Her dark, curly hair cascaded down her back, each strand catching the sunlight as it danced in the wind. It framed her face like an untamed halo, amplifying her striking presence. She was dressed in a loose-fitting white shirt that billowed softly with the breeze, its simplicity a stark contrast to the wild energy of her hair. The shirt hung off her shoulders just enough to suggest both elegance and freedom, an embodiment of her spirit.
I walked out of the room, my footsteps muffled against the wooden floor, and pushed open the door to the crisp air outside. I stood at the threshold, my arms crossed as I watched Aneesa.
This was the most carefree l've ever seen her. She had a wide smile on her face that was captivating and for a moment all I could do was just stare at her, watching the way she laughed as the horse took her for a ride in a circle.
Aneesa soon noticed me and she slowed her horse down, smiling as she got down from the horse and turned to look at me. "Your highness."
"Is this your horse?" I asked as I approached her with my arms folded behind me.
Aneesa looked at me for a moment before she nodded her attention, turning her attention back to the horse. "This is Spirit, my horse." She said and I could hear the hint of pride in her tone, "Spirit, this is Corion, a royal ass." She said and the horse snorted in response almost as if it agreed.
Chuckling, I walked towards the horse. It was a fine mare, there was no doubt about that. Big, strong and fast. "Why Spirit?"
"Because he is strong willed." Aneesa answered me, smiling brightly up at the horse that now nudged her palm.
"Just like you." I murmured under my breath.
Aneesa seemed to hear it because she turned to look back at me with a smile on her face. Turning back to the horse, Aneesa grabbed Spirit's reins, "He is like the best friend I never had, we've been through a lot together and from what I know, we still have more adventures ahead with each other."
"Is that so?"
"Wanna race?"
I arched a brow up at her, not quite sure what she meant. "A race?"
"Horses are naturally known for being fast in nature." Aneesa said as she suddenly mounted Spirit with a grunt, "But I want to know how fast a werewolf is against a horse."
I cocked my head at her, was she being serious right now? "You do know I'm not just a werewolf right?"
"Right, but you also seem to be having trouble connecting with your vampire side." Aneesa responded, "So come on race with me?"
I scanned the surroundings while heaving out a sigh. From where I was, I could see her family moving about in the house while trying hard not to look like they were keeping an eye on us except it was hard not to. Mirabel has been cleaning the same spot by the window for over ten minutes, Grace was busy tending to the garden while checking back on us and Giselle, well she was openly glaring at me.
"Yeah I'm not sure that's a good idea." I said turning to look back at Aneesa who scoffed at me in disbelief.
Aneesa snorted at me in response. "Why? Scared of a little challenge?"
"You know that isn't even true." I responded, narrowing my eyes at her, "I just don't want you to get hurt."
"More like you don't want your ego to be bruised." Aneesa responded and I rolled my eyes at her, "Besides, I won't be, I have nothing to worry about. You are with me and I trust you."
I froze at that word, trust! Here she was casually throwing the word around in my face, not caring what it meant for me.
"Try and keep up!" Aneesa suddenly said, snapping her horse forward. "Hyah!" She urged her horse as she raced towards the woods.
I was left staring after her, dust clouded in the part where she had run and against my better judgment I could feel a small smile tugging at my lips. Putting my hands on my waist, I allowed Aneesa to run just as my claws begin to elongate. I could also feel my canines dripping in anticipation at the thought of chasing Aneesa through the woods.
Aneesa was wrong though! She did have something to worry about, being alone in the woods with the biggest predator ever! I thought to myself, a low growl rumbling deep in my chest before I leapt after her.
