Chapter 4

It's been a couple of days since Anna and Alex came home after a lovely vacation, where Anna enjoyed her brothers' company. Although their attention to her has lessened since she moved to live with Alex, Anna has always been enormously grateful to her half-brothers. She can not blame them or get angry with them, no matter how rarely they call her or come to see her. She'll always remember the love and care they gave her when even her father refused to. They've ignored their pain for the loss of their mother. They went against their father and took her in when they needed care and comfort, for that they'll always be her first family. That didn't make Alex go easy on them, though. He keeps complaining about how irresponsible they are since they don't call to check on their little sister more often. He even nicknamed them" the stupid brothers." "- They know how much you care and that I am totally happy being with you, I and Michael keep texting all day long, they know everything I do, no need for them to call that much " Anna would say in their defense, but Alex would only roll his eyes on her" here comes their lawyer, I don't do excuses Annaliz, they still irresponsible " She would laugh like it is not the millionth time they had that conversation, and hold saying " I know that no one would give me the care and love you're giving me" and like every time all his anger would vanish against the light he sees in his angel's eyes and he would say his favorite line," you think that I saved you, but you Annaliz have no idea that it was me who was saved". Now that Anna had to go back to school and Alex to work. Their days were very steady. Anna would wake up every day to go to school and spend her day there to go back home only in the afternoon. Alex's time, on the other hand, was a bit random because of the nature of his job, sometimes he would stay at work too late, and other times he would go back early or leave even before Anna awakened, Because of that their time together was very limited, however for her the day is never complete until she sees him, for that no matter how early or late he is, she would sit down and chat with him about everything and nothing. And she's only confirmed how much he means to her that day when she almost lost him.

That day, Anna woke up as usual to go to school. After freshening up, she went downstairs to have breakfast, and she smiled warmly when she found it already set with a note on the table. She read the note while eating "- morning, angel, I'd to leave very early, something came up at work, study hard and take good care of yourself while I am not around..... ps: don't freak out if I stay out late at night, the new case is a bit complicated, " Anna's heart tightened at the last note, but she ignored the feeling and went to school. Her day at school was ordinary, except for that young man in her class who kept provoking her coldly like his avenging something, but now that it's been almost a year since she joined this school she learned how to ignore him. In the middle of the school day, Anna was called to the principal office, in there she found a woman who showed her her badge saying - "- I work with your uncle, Detective Anderson, I am sorry to come to your school out of nowhere but...." Anna interrupted her "- Is Alex alright? " The woman's face darkened, and she replied," Miss Nilson, please, I need you to be calm, I'll take you to him right away, it's just that he was hurt. " Anna's tears ran unconsciously. She walked silently out of the office and headed towards the classroom." I'll just get my backpack, " she explained gloomily. She entered the classroom, grabbed her bag, and excused herself. The teacher, though, stopped her asking, " Is everything alright, Miss? Nilson? Anna raised her head and her eyes spontaneously turned to meet the eyes of the boy sitting next to her, his eyes were full of questions and fear, and something else she could not get, her voice finally came out saying "-a family issue sir ." He nodded and let her be.

Anna loved Alex more than anything else in the short life she remembered. He was to her way more than an uncle. He was a father, a brother, and even a friend. The smile that lights his eyes before reaching his face every time he sees her, the patience he gives to every single detail related to her, his always repeated line " you think that I saved you, but you've got no idea how you saved me Annaliz". All that together made her feel free. With him, she is free to enjoy all the care, love, and time he gives her without worrying that she is being a burden, maybe she is not welcome, despite his continuous effort to train her and make her strong enough to take care of herself, she has never felt that his doing so to lighten his responsibilities toward her, he just does it out of love and care.

Anna cried silently all the way to the hospital. Her mind was blank, unable to understand what Detective Anderson was saying about Alex's injury. Anna's mind was totally denying the events, she was only going to the hospital to confirm that he was alright and nothing else. Neither her brain nor her already scared heart can imagine her life if things went wrong as if something bad could happen to her savior and Guardian, to her dear brother.
