"Do you hate looking like her?"
"Yes, I hate it. Are you willing to teach me because of her?"
Shinji wasn't surprised by Gray's attitude. Anyone would be unhappy if they suddenly started looking like someone else, even if that person was their ancestor.
"That's only one of the reasons. There are two other reasons. First, your constitution is similar to mine, which means conventional teaching methods won't work for you. I don't want your talent to go to waste. Second, Waver is great at many things, but his combat skills are poor. You getting stronger would help protect him better."
"I'm sorry my combat skills are so lacking," Waver shrugged helplessly.
"As for your appearance, you shouldn't be too concerned. You're not the only one who looks like King Arthur. There are many others, and they are all famous historical figures."
"Really?"
Add showed interest, and so did Waver.
"Who are these people?"
"Don't be impatient. Everyone, sit down. Now, as a temporary history lecturer of El-Melloi Classroom, I, Matou Shinji, will give you all a lesson."
Shinji cleared his throat and stood in front of the two and Add, beginning his lecture.
"Gray's face, I like to call it the Saber face. The first person with this face appeared at the start of the AD era. She was the fifth emperor of the Roman Empire, Nero Claudius Caesar. Next, in the 5th century, there was King Arthur, Artoria Pendragon, and her child Mordred. Then, in the 15th century, there was the French heroine, Jeanne d'Arc. After that, in the 19th century, there was the famous samurai of the Edo period in Japan, Okita Souji. And finally, there's you, Gray."
"Among you six, the one who resembles your ancestor the most in appearance is Mordred, and the one who resembles her the most in temperament is Jeanne d'Arc. As for you, you are most like Okita Souji, meaning you resemble her the least—how do you feel now?"
"It sounds like nonsense, but why do I feel it's true?"
Add commented.
"I think so too. What Shinji said must be true."
Waver remembered clearly that during the Holy Grail War ten years ago, the French Marshal Gilles de Rais summoned as Caster, had mistaken Artoria for Jeanne d'Arc.
"Are they the same as me?"
Gray lowered her head as if asking or lamenting.
"That I don't know. Maybe they just looked alike, or maybe they were in the same situation as you—"
"—or maybe they all have a blood connection. Britain was initially a Roman territory, so perhaps the tyrant Nero left descendants here. Then, King Arthur's descendants might have moved to France and given rise to Jeanne d'Arc. Eventually, they traveled to Japan during the age of exploration and became the ancestors of Okita Souji. If you think about it, Rome is quite amazing. I've decided, from today on, I'm a fan of Rome."
The office door had somehow opened, and a blond boy stood at the entrance, eyes shining as he spoke passionately.
"Flatt, you were eavesdropping again!!!"
Waver's forehead veins bulged, and Flat quickly waved his hands.
"Whoa, professor, it wasn't my fault this time, it was Le Chien"
"Don't call me Le Chien (the dog)! My name is Svin! Svin Glascheit! How many years will it take for you to remember that with your empty head!"
Another voice rang from the entrance hall, belonging to the second problem student.
"But Le Chien is Le Chien! Just like Charisma Professor, Master V, Great Big Ben☆London Star, Magica Disclosure!"
"You're just referring to Velvet Sensei! And you made up Great Big Ben☆London Star!"
"Charisma Professor was Le Chien's idea!"
"Ugh."
Svin groaned in response to Flat's retort.
"Could it be that in Le Chien's hometown...there's no concept of nicknames?"
"How could that be!"
His roar turned into a magical howl, heading straight for the back of Flat's head.
This was not magic, but a kind of beast instinct, formed by a beast-like, ferocious killing intent. It flowed within Svin's blood and flesh, and it would spread out whenever his emotions were stirred.
Flat was hit directly, but he didn't even notice the killing intent that could easily take a person's life, because his naturally strong magic circuits deflected the curse.
It was because of such abilities that they were called the Twin Jewels. Even with age restrictions, these two could rank among the top in the entire Clock Tower, both in terms of talent and troublemaking.
Seeing this, veins popped up on Waver's forehead as he said, word by word, "Get out!"
"But Gray dear is still—"
Svin looked at Gray with a burning gaze, resembling a lecherous old man stalking a pretty girl on the street.
Waver finally couldn't take it anymore: "I take back what I said before. You deal with them. At least keep them quiet until tomorrow."
"No problem."
Shinji cracked his knuckles and grinned.
"Class starts now. The best way to deal with these naturally stubborn types who don't listen to reason is with fists."
Before he finished speaking, Shinji had already appeared at the doorway, reaching for Flat's chest. Flat yelped and backed away, while Svin did the opposite, swapping places with Flat and blocking Shinji's right hand with his left fist.
"Not bad, but not enough!"
Magic surged from Shinji's hand, overwhelming Svin's arm. Just as Svin opened his mouth to chant a spell, Shinji's left hand was already gripping his throat. Holding Svin with one hand and grabbing the back of Flat's neck with the other, Shinji spun them around wildly.
"Human Windmill!!!"
He shook them until they were dizzy and foaming at the mouth, then threw them onto the floor like discarded bags.
"All done—Gray, did you get that? If these two cause trouble again, just do this."
"But, but…"
Gray hesitated.
"This is for your teacher's stomach's sake. You don't want him having stomach pains every day, do you?"
"I'm afraid I won't do it well."
"If you can't do it well, then very few people in this world can. Listen, Gray, your constitution is special. You might not be able to use magecraft like a normal magi, but you're well-suited for this method of directly amplifying and releasing magic. You just lack proper guidance. Come on, lady, tell me your decision."
"I'm willing, instructor."
Gray didn't hesitate anymore. She respectfully bowed to Shinji.
