"Ethan pressed, "You're running out of time, Kiara! Don't let this chance slip away like you did last time."

Kiara dialed Mason's number, and the phone rang twice before going to voicemail. She tried again, but was greeted by the same automated message:

"Sorry, I'm unavailable right now. Please leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible."

Kiara lowered her phone, a hint of "I told you so" in her voice,

"See, Ethan? I knew it was too early to call. He's not even available yet." She glanced at Ethan.

Ethan shrugged, "Well, at least you tried. You did your part, and that's all that matters."
