"The cancer has spread to his brain. The doctor wants to start chemotherapy right away." Kendall's eyes widened in shock, her face pale, as she reached out to take Mrs. Hernandez's hand in hers.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," she whispered, her voice filled with empathy.
"Kendall.., Darren continued. " They said he needs immediate attention. The doctor said he hasn't started chemotherapy yet, which is allowing the cancer to progress rapidly."
Kendall's eyes widened in disbelief, her mouth agape. "What? That can't be! Why wouldn't your dad have started treatment? That just doesn't make sense!" She shook her head, trying to reconcile the shocking revelation. "How could he delay treatment?.
"I don't know Kendall," Darren concluded.
As Madelyn's shift drew to a close, she breathed a sigh of relief and began to prepare for her departure.
