Maddison felt as if her head was going to split apart. She cursed beneath her breath as she tried to recall what had happened. She didn't know how long she'd been asleep for but judging from the splitting headache, it had been quite some time.
"What… time is it?"
Her vision was still a blur at first. But as it began to regain focus, Maddison widened her eyes in shock. Her heart pounded in fear as she realized she didn't know where she was. The room she was in was not her bedroom.
Maddison slapped her cheeks.
"Think, Maddy, think! What happened? Where were you?" She whispered to herself as she tried to recall what had happened.
But all the alcohol she had drunk from the night before and the last few days were taking a toll on her body. Her memories were in pieces. Slowly and surely, it came back to her.
She had gone to The Garden to ruin Hugo and Lizzie's wedding. But she didn't go through with it so she headed to the bar. Maddison curled up and buried her head in her knees.
"Oh no…" She muttered to herself as she continued to recall.
She had drank drink after drink. Then, she got up to leave and she bumped into a man. She buried her face in her hands when she recalled kissing him. Still, she could not quite recall how the man looked.
However, his face was the last thing she saw before she blacked out.
Maddison slowly raised her head. She bit her lip as she looked for clues around the room. Before that, she looked down.
"Oh thank god I'm clothed," She heaved a sigh of relief.
But the relief was fleeting when she realized she wasn't wearing what she had worn the night before. Someone had changed her clothes for her! Maddison looked to the side of the bed. There wasn't anyone lying next to her.
Surely that was a good sign?
Everything in the room screamed luxury. Though the designs were simple and minimalistic, it was done tastefully. Whoever the owner was, had good taste. Maddison instinctively touched her neck. The necklace she'd been wearing ever since she could remember was still there, bringing her a sense of comfort.
Looking around the room for clues again, hoping it would help her figure out whose house she was in, Maddison noticed a worn photo frame.
She instinctively walked over to it, leaving the bed. She picked it up to take a closer look. The photo contained in it was yellow from sun damage. It had clearly been taken years ago. Two children were depicted in the frame, a boy and a girl.
The boy looked a little older than the girl. Both of them were smiling widely. Something about this photograph felt familiar. Maddison furrowed her brows as she looked at the photograph intently. Just like her, the girl was also wearing a locket around her neck.
However, the details were lost in the photograph.
"Good morning, did you sleep well?"
Maddison jumped, almost dropping the photo frame on the ground. Lucky for her, she caught it before it hit the ground. She quickly put it back on the bedside table before turning to face the source of the voice.
Red rose in her cheeks when she found herself face to face with a handsome young man with only a towel wrapped around his waist. His body was akin to one of those Greek god statues in the museum.
How could anyone keep it so tight?!
Maddison gulped as she averted her gaze in embarrassment but not before the man noticed her looking.
"M… Morning," She mumbled in response, "How… how did I-"
"Do you not remember anything that happened last night?" He asked again, in a huskier voice.
He was walking towards her. Maddison froze in place. She couldn't move. She stood there and watched as he got closer and closer. Until he walked past her. Maddison turned, only to see the man walk into the walk-in closet behind her.
Curious, she followed his footsteps. But she didn't dare look in. She wouldn't want to see him naked. Now would she?
"You want to know how you end up in my bed?" He asked from inside.
She could hear him pulling out clothing from the closet to change.
"Yes… and…"
"One question at a time, shall we?"
He was demanding and she wasn't about to oppose him.
"Alright, we'll start with that," Maddison resigned.
"You were drunk, you came onto me in the pub. I brought you to the VIP room to rest and you fell asleep. Nothing could wake you, and leaving you at the club was not an option. So I brought you back here to rest. As for why you're in my bed…"
His voice grew louder towards the end of his last sentence. Maddison took a step back as the handsome man emerged from his walk-in closet. He was no longer in the nude. He was dressed in a tailored suit that highlighted his best features. The colors were matched well too.
He attempted to fasten his cuff links with great difficulty. The annoyance was growing on his face.
"May I?" Maddison asked.
It was an instinctive move. When she was with Hugo, she used to help him with his cuff-links all the time.
"I would be grateful," the man replied with a slight smile.
Maddison pursed her lips as she helped him with his cuff links.
"There," She said as she took a step back.
That was when she noticed the man looking intently at her. Wondering if she had done something wrong, Maddison was about to say something but she stopped herself. What could she say?
"Thank you, Maddison," the man said before moving across the room.
This left her stunned once more. How did he know her name?
"How do you know my name? And who are you?"
The man was looking through a watch case, trying to pick the one that suited him best. He glanced over at Maddison for a second.
"Right, we haven't introduced ourselves to each other, have we? I'm sorry, let's start from the top," He said as he fastened the watch to his wrist.
"My name is Elias, Elias King. And you are Maddison Lane, am I right?" He asked.
He knew her name! Even her surname! But that wasn't the more shocking part. The name Elias King definitely sounded familiar to her. Where had she heard of it before?
No! Maddison could not believe it!
She slept with billionaire Elias King?!
