Mere Coincidence

The next morning, Elias woke up groggy. It took a while for his vision to refocus. He recalled the events of the night before with great clarity. He hadn't expected them to move so quickly but he was glad that they did.

When he looked over, he was happy to see that Maddison was still sound asleep next to him. He reached over to tuck a lock of her hair behind her ear. She was so beautiful, even when she was sleeping.

"Mhm, let me sleep a while more," Maddison mumbled in her sleep.

Elias could not help but chuckle. Looking over to the digital clock he had on his bedside table, he realized it was already almost noon. It was rare for him to sleep through his alarms but Elias didn't mind.

Just then, Elias noticed Maddison was stirring awake. Although he wanted to greet her as she woke, he pretended to be asleep instead. He wanted to see how she was going to react. He closed his eyes and slowed his breathing while his other senses remained on high alert.
