Serene had tears in her eyes.
"You're hurting me, Elias. I'm just here to see Auntie Edith. That's all," She pleaded in a sweet tender voice.
Maddison did her best to keep her expression unchanging. A shiver ran down her spine. She wanted to roll her eyes at Serene but she knew that would attract more negative gossip.
She watched as Elias released her wrist roughly. It was clear that he didn't care about Serene. He wasn't afraid of what people would say about him too.
Serene stumbled back, crashing onto the ground with a thud. All the attention was on her now, just like how she likely wanted.
"Elias, how could you do that to Serene?" Someone shouted at him.
The commotion drew the attention of those who were outside the room. Many of them fought in the doorway to see what was happening.
"How could he be so cruel? Isn't Serene his childhood friend?"
"I heard they were supposed to be wed."
