Chapter 16: Meeting

Chris drove with the windows down, feeling suffocated and uncomfortable due to his headaches. He chose to wander for a while, knowing his family would worry at the sight of his pale face, especially his grandmother.

The drive back to the Majestic Sky residence was a blur, city lights blending into a kaleidoscope of colors as he navigated through empty streets. The pounding in his head grew louder, a relentless reminder of his body's exhaustion.

His mind wandered until he heard a loud bang. Another accident? He frowned.

Exiting his car to assess the damage, Chris was ambushed by a gang of black-masked men. Armed with baseball bats, they swung dangerously, outnumbering him. Despite his best efforts, Chris struggled to fend them off.

…

Alice clocked out from work, eager to head home. Part of her haste was fueled by a desire for extra sleep before continuing to cook for her channel.

On the bus, she read through some comments:

"You're mean! How could you post it at night? It ruined my diet plan."

"Omg! That looks good."

"It's just claypot rice, guys. Chill!"

"Upstairs! Can't you see how tempting it looks? I could smell its fragrance from here."

"Are you sure you don't live upstairs of a claypot chicken restaurant?"

"No way it can look that good."

"I'm trying it tomorrow."

"Hey! I'm rich! You're the one who lives in the restaurant, hmph!"

Alice laughed reading the comments, optimistic about her growing number of subscribers. Luckily, she was the only one on the bus, so she didn't disturb anyone.

Alighting from the bus, Alice walked towards her living complex. Turning a corner, she heard dull punching sounds and muffled breaths.

As she approached, she saw a man being beaten by a group. Unfazed, Alice called 911 and hastened towards them. She was not afraid, as police response time in her area was less than 3 minutes, she knew they could do nothing to her.

"Hey, stop! I've called the police. You might want to run now!" she shouted.

Hearing her words, the gang began to scatter, cursing under their breaths. Police sirens sounded as Alice walked towards Chris.

"Are you okay? Can you get up?" Alice asked.

Dumbfounded, Chris wondered why this girl didn't run but came to him instead.

"Hey! Are you fine? Hello?" Alice waved her hand in front of Chris's face.

Chris slowly blinked, his head still reeling from the unexpected encounter with the gang. He struggled to focus on Alice's face, his vision blurred from the lingering effects of the headache.

"Yeah... I'm fine," he managed to mutter, his voice barely above a whisper.

Alice's brow furrowed with concern as she helped him to his feet. "You don't look fine. Let's get you some help," she insisted, her voice firm and reassuring.Together, they made their way to a nearby bench, where Chris sank down with a weary sigh. Alice stayed by his side, her presence a comforting anchor in the midst of chaos.

Within minutes, the sound of approaching sirens filled the air as the police arrived at the scene. Alice quickly explained what had happened, providing a detailed account of the gang's attack on Chris.
