Chapter 18:Family

"Chris, are you okay? What happened?" Feng Ming's shaky voice could be heard. Funny how both brothers actually have a love-hate relationship with each other.

"I'll tell you later. Go to the hospital first." Feng Ming then supported Chris up from the bench and helped him to the car.

On their way to the hospital, Chris reiterated the whole story, minus meeting Alice and her timely help. For once in many years, Feng Tan kept quiet and listened to his story.

They were stuck in the morning commute for a while. As Chris finished his story, he turned his head to the side in an attempt to get a quick shut-eye.

He was shocked to see Feng Tan looking at him with his big, teary eyes. Chris cocked his eyebrow at him. Turns out he didn't realize that Feng Tan was there on his side all this time.

"Does it hurt?" Feng Tan asked in a choked voice.

Chris harrumphed in reply.

"Really, Uncle? Are you still mad? Humph.. it's my fault for wanting to show a little filial piety."

"Hey! Be good.. he's hurt," his dad chided him.

"Dad, he is so petty. He still holds a grudge for a picture. Can you believe it? A picture!"

"Hahahahahaha," Feng Tan laughed gleefully.

Chris clicked his tongue. Feng Tan could feel his hair standing when he heard Chris's clicking sound. Nothing good came out when his uncle was angry. He quickly shut his mouth and looked at the scenery outside.

Their trip to the hospital was luckily a quick one. Chris was being treated for his superficial injuries, and scans showed that he luckily had not injured his organs.

After dropping off Feng Tan at school and explaining the situation to his teacher, both Chris and Feng Ming went back home.

His initial intention to not worry his family for his headache and pale face was now doubled by injuries to his face and other easily seen body parts such as hands and legs.

Grandma screamed in horror when she saw Chris being supported into the house. Her heart ached for her precious grandson.

"Who dares to touch my grandson! They're courting death!" Grandpa screamed at the top of his lungs.

"Stop shouting, you rogue old man! You startled me!" said Grandma Yan while stroking her chest.

Grandpa cleared his throat awkwardly. He felt guilty for shouting but was too embarrassed to apologize. He stroked his beard and went up to his study.

He wanted to ask his subordinates to find the culprit. Although the police had ruled out the incident as a normal theft case, Grandpa was not going to sit around.

Their family status was special, and thus he knew there was something more than meets the eye. He wouldn't rest the case before looking into it himself.

"Tell Grandma what happened," asked Grandma Yan sternly.

Chris had no choice but to tell the story all over again before Grandma let him off. After finishing, he called Zhichen from his bed, told him the problem, and asked him to investigate thoroughly.

Something in his heart said that it wasn't simple. Just like his grandpa, Chris too had his doubts.
