Chapter 20: Worry

In the bus, Alice's newly formed routine was to edit the video before uploading it to the platform. As always, she read some comments and took the time to let loose a little.

Her class was a bit packed today. She braced herself for a long day while sipping on the coffee she brought from home. Caffeine helped her clear her mind for a bit.

The road was a bit congested today, so Alice had a bit more time to spare. She scrolled through social media to find inspiration for her video.

At the old residence.

Chris was woken up by rustling sounds beside his bed. He squinted his eyes at the light and saw Grandma sitting on one of his lounge chairs.

His room in the old residence was very big, consisting of several beds joined together. He had his own living area, bed area, a huge walk-in closet, en suite bathroom, a study, and also a personal pantry equipped with a high-end coffee machine, as well as built-in commercial kitchen appliances.

Although he never used the space very often, the golden grandson of the Yan family still had the convenience at his fingertips.

"What are you doing here?" asked Chris.

Grandma Yan lifted her head and smacked the book in her hand against Chris's head. Chris winced in pain.

"Idiot! You still dare to ask why I'm here?" Grandma roared.

"Ouch. It hurts. What are you doing?"

"Who asked you to worry me early in the morning? Now I can't stand not seeing you with my own eyes. Does it really hurt?" asked Grandma sulkily after watching Chris rub his head.

Chris sighed, knowing that the thing Grandma feared most was if any of her family got hurt. After a few doses of coaxing, Grandma Yan smiled again.

"Haih.. look, you were still alone when you're hurt. Why can't you just pick a partner?"

Chris was stumped. If only finding a life partner were as easy as choosing a fish, he would already have a few of them. For him, he felt that it was okay to wait longer than be tortured for the rest of his life.

After profusely convincing her that he was okay, Grandma finally relented and let him off. Chris got up, washed his face, and then went to the annex building.

Walking on the cold, tiled floor, Chris walked step by step to the bedside quietly. He stroked his mom's face tenderly and gave her a quick smooch on her forehead, as he used to.

After dazedly watching his mom sleep for a while, he left the building with a heart full of resentment and reminded himself of why he had worked so hard.

Chris did not go to the main building but instead went ahead to the garage and drove off to his office.

"Hello.. hello.. can you hear me ma'am?"
