Only Rule, Don’t Kill

'Shit, that bitch didn't say anything about this!'

Havin was trembling, he could feel the goosebumps coating his body. Everyone in the hall was looking at Alastor like a monster, why did someone with this power stay in this average class?

The hall was dead silent as Alastor made his first step forward. They wanted to speak and gossip like they used to do, but the image of him was both captivating and terrifying.

Havin wanted to run away but a voice threatened him in his head,

'Use the item I gave you or your death won't be pretty. At least Alastor would not kill you, but I will make sure to steal your last breath if you dare to disobey me.'

He flinched, regretting his choices. He thought he would be the winner with that item, but how was he even supposed to use this item while he could not even get any closer to Alastor?

'Fuck, guess I'll have to risk my life to survive!'

Havin shocked everyone as he ran towards Alastor. Without hesitation he started his own chant and moved faster than before.

"Ho, Wind Magic."

The mana carried him around and obstructed Alastor's vision for a few seconds, making Havin think he was able to trick him.

Sad for him, though, Alastor's chaotic mana was not so simple. As soon as he was a few steps away from Alastor, the chaotic mana started to eat the normal mana.

His body that was almost invisible appeared again from thin air and Alastor smiled wider as he kicked him away.

Havin hit the pillar of the hall, letting out a gasp accompanied by a mouthful of blood. His ribs were broken for sure, he could feel it.

But he was also delighted despite the pain. The Magical Item was already there on Alastor's shoulder!

With a gesture of his hand, something exploded in front of everyone's amazed eyes.

Alastor on the other hand scoffed at that pathetic attempt, he grabbed the small explosion from his shoulder and crushed it. Before finally realizing that was the main purpose of this item.

"Hahahaha!"

Havin laughed victoriously, thinking he was the winner of the match. Alastor's eyes slowly dimmed, making Evan finally worry, "Alastor!"

Alastor, for a second, felt he was in a different realm. Something made his whole body a bit shaken, and the Magic Circles that were getting healed started to worsen again.

Closing his eyes, Alastor instinctively dodged a kick from Havin. Now it was his turn to cough blood, but his condition was way worse than he thought.

His senses, his nerves, and every part of his body was acting slow. He understood what was happening, whatever that item was, it was supposed to slow him down.

No, its real purpose was to suck him into a hallucination that he cannot escape from.

His instincts were getting numbed slowly, was the one approaching him Havin? Was he about to be attacked from the left or from the right.

This was getting dangerous.

The crowd were amazed by what they saw, after that explosion, Alastor was fighting with his eyes closed. No matter from what angle or how Havin was attacking him, Alastor was able to dodge.

But his purple chaotic mana was clearly depleting.

Evan's worry eased when he saw his friend being able to stand his ground. Again, he just wasted his time worrying over Alastor.

Though, he was not blind. Alastor's body was being more damaged the longer this battle kept on, which he surely was aware of. But that Magical Item made it impossible for him to finish as quickly as he wanted.

'Should I interfere? They said everything is allowed as long as you don't kill your opponent, but the way the Instructor behaved was clearly biased.'

Evan hesitated.

However, he came to a decision soon. Alastor's current body's condition was his fault even if he wanted to believe otherwise, he needed to repay his friend by at least landing a small help.

But how exactly could he do that? Evan was not sure about that. The Item's true nature was unknown, so he could only…

'Ugh, that would surely hurt,' Groaning, Evan resigned himself to the pain that would follow, "As the mind and the wind chase, the consciousness fades away."

His body leaned on the wall in the corner he was in, and Evan opened his eyes again within Alastor's body. It was too easy to do that, making him realize his assumption was right.

The Magical Item had a mental spell.

Now, Evan needed to dissolve the spell so Alastor could finish the fight himself. Diving through his consciousness, he used his mana to dissolve and absorb any remnants of the Item that penetrated Alastor's head.

Alastor felt his head clearing up with a new presence within him, he let Evan help him as he lifted his hand.

The remaining chaotic mana that roaming around him slammed into each other before falling into shape– creating a large, dark purple scythe.

Havin groaned at the suffocation he felt, he felt fear paralyzing his body as Alastor waved his scythe.

"Phew. Young man, I suppose you do not understand how fighting is supposed to be. Where is the fun if you tried to immobilize your opponent?"

The calm, teasing voice sent shivers down the crowd's spine. Thankfully no one was free enough to notice Evan's body in the corner.

Alastor made his first serious and last move to end the battle after giving a cold smile to Havin.

"But if you found it so tempting and good, let us try it out in a better way!"

The scythe moved and cut Havin's tendons, causing him to scream in agony and terror once he was unable to escape anymore.

"Student Alastor!" The Instructor called out threateningly. Evan immediately hopped back to his body.

Alastor did not give the Instructor any face, though.

"My, I suppose it is fun after all."

"N, No! S-sicko! Instructor, save me! Ugh-!"

He was cut off by another swift cut from the purple scythe, Alastor stood upright while staring down at him, gazing at his ankle.

The blood was oozing from there, making Alastor giggle. He kicked the food away, prompting a series of cries and screams from the crowd.

For that, he simply shrugged as he faced them,

"The only rule was to not kill your opponent, my opponent is right there and alive. If any of you have complaints, kindly move it towards your dear Instructor!"
