CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN: CHATTING WITH FRIENDS
"I came to this school because of John and Joan's brother" Morayo answered as she shocked me
"John and Joan? Are they those ones in our class?" I asked not sure of what she is saying or who she is talking about and not hoping they are the ones
"Yes, they are the twins in our class" she answered as she looked at me
"Wow, I didn't know you three were close" I said without showing any expression
"Nah, we are not that close. We are just family friends, my dad is their family doctor" she answered as she looked at Vanessa, she looks lost as she looks at both of us
"Wow, I am sure their brother complimented about the school in a good way" I said as I looked at her
"Yes he did. He did it in a convincing way that my mom was convinced enough to put down the name of the school in my entrance form" she said as she looked at the sky
"Well, this school is kinda likeable" I shrugged
"You just got here yesterday so, don't yet conclude" Morayo said
"Yes, I even heard one of the seniors in my room saying that they wish the years can just move faster so they can finish from this school" Vanessa said
"Many people are complaining, I miss everyone at home" Morayo said as she looked at me
"I don't really have anything to say yet as you said" I said as I felt nothing in me, I am not missing my parents at all. I guess, it can be because of my brother and friends are already keeping me company
"Let's go back to hostel" Morayo said as she stood up
"We just got here" I said as I looked at the students fetching water in the school compound
"Okay then, let's wait for some time" Morayo said as she looked at our class block
"Aren't you guys noticing the students bathing in the school compound?" I asked as I looked at the students smiling, fetching water, playing with water and bathing
"It is quite okay since it is dusk already and no school authorities around besides, the tap in the girls hostels ate always queued by girls. While in the school compound, it is barely you see queues except if there is no water in the girls hostel" Morayo responded as she looked at the students
"Wow, I just hope there shouldn't be a time where shortage of water is in school" I said as I looked at two female students chatting as they walk towards our class block
"It is not a prayer nor a curse, they will soon be a day when there is shortage of water in the school especially the days where there is no light and solar to pump water" Morayo said as she looked at me
"Wow, isn't there generator?" I asked as I looked at her
"There is but, only in the mornings that generators are on" she answered
"There was even a time when borehole in boys hostel were under repair that, girls had to put on full clothes if they come outside from the hostel because boys come to fetch water in school compound or taps in front of girls hostel which they call top chaos" she said as she smiled remembering those times
"You must have enjoyed your days in this school then" I said as I looked at her
"Well, there are good days and bad days. The bad days are mostly Mondays because of their foods and subjects and also Thursdays. How I hate those two days! The good days are the weekends where you rest and have the bed to yourself except from some scholars that don't want to rest like Victoria and others" she said as she sat very well on the chair and looked at us smiling
"That means there are a lot to learn from Victoria then" I said as I looked at her and then at the quiet Vanessa
"I am just glad that we are eating spaghetti tomorrow. Do you know how much I enjoy Jollof Spaghetti" she said as she looked at us with a smiling face
"Gosh Morayo, you like food" I said smiling
"By the way, what food do you like best?" Morayo asked me
"Hmn... I love swallows, since I am Yoruba and from Ondo, I love Poundo yam with any type of soup in it" I said as I liked my lips
"Awon omo Ondo da?" (Where are the children of Ondo?) She asked as she smiled
"I am Igbo from Imo state, so, I can't relate" Vanessa said as she looked at us as she smiled
"You don't even look like Igbo, you look more Yoruba-ish" Morayo said as she looked at Vanessa
"Yeah, I get that a lot and I am sure Floral gets that a lot because, she looks Igbo" Vanessa said as she looks at Morayo and then turns to face me
"Lol, I don't think anyone have talked about my tribe to me before" I shrugged as I looked at Vanessa with a smile
"Well, no body can even mistake me for any other tribe because I am Yoruba and I look like one, talk like one, behave like one and my name is Morayooluwa" she said feeling proud of herself
"Are you trying to say that, those bearing English names instead of their tribe names shouldn't be proud of themselves?" I asked as I looked at her feeling left out
My parents gave me an English name saying it sounds unique
"What is your Yoruba name?" Morayo asked me as she looked at me
"Oluwadumininu" I said as I smiled
Though, my Yoruba name is very common among many Yorubas but, I still enjoy the name
"I was thinking you would be given a Yoruba oriki names like Asake, Aduke, Abike and so on" she said as she looked at me smiling
