CHAPTER FORTY SIX: MY SUNDAY! (3)

CHAPTER FORTY SIX: MY SUNDAY! (3)

After eating our smashed bread and egg, we made our way to the Chapel

"We better go before the seniors come chasing us to the Chapel with stick gotten from the branch of a tree" Victoria warned as we walked fast to the Chapel already prepared

I saw some seniors putting on some lipglose, different colours. Some putting on mascara and eyepencil that they try painting on their lips.

"Aren't you going to do like them?" I teased Morayo and Victoria with my question

"What? I don't even know whether it will fit me besides, I don't know how do use any of them except from the lipglose. Lol!" Morayo explained as she looked at the seniors before looking at where we were going

"Me too!" I responded as well "maybe when I get to the senior class that I will know how to use them" i shrugged as I smiled at the thought of it

"I love the way you give yourself high hopes that, it will fit you" Morayo said as she looked at me

"I am not even sure, I am just saying my own" i said as we entered into the chapel

"Enough with all these! Morayo, you should have told her the school authorities don't allow such things even in the senior school" Victoria warned trying to not make me have hopes in things that might not even come to reality

"Then, why are the seniors putting it on?" I asked confused at Victoria reaction

"Because, it is on a Sunday and there isn't any staffs that passes here in the morning like this" she answered my curious and confused question

"O..okay!" I responded

"But, that doesn't stop us from doing something like that" Morayo blurted out

"Yeah, that is if none of the staffs catches you" Victoria replied straightforwardly

I sighed at the sound of it, I don't even understand why all these are rules. Is it that I am not really going to enjoy boarding school life as I thought I would?!

Morayo led the way as she showed us to the spaces she left for us to sit

As Victoria said, the Chapel is so occupied that it is a miracle that Morayo space is still vacant for us to sit

The preacher just started the Sunday school as we sat to listen to the senior student preaching.

Morayo yawned as she rested on Victoria's shoulder.

Victoria is sitting at the other end, Morayo is sitting beside her while me, I am sitting next to Morayo leaving some spaces next to me since, there are some it her students who left space to sit as well

"You can't sleep during Sunday school. You have to learn something before sleeping" Victoria advised as she tried pushing Morayo's head away

"I learnt that you should love your neighbour as yourself" Morayo said as she tried pushing her head back to sleep on Victoria's shoulder

Then suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up to see who the person is but, it was a senior

"Wake her up!" The senior said as she pointed at Morayo

I tapped Morayo lightly "the senior standing by my right says I should wake you up" i informed Morayo

Morayo sat up right and looked at the senior

"Warn yourself, don't let me catch you sleeping again" the senior warned

"Sorry usher!" Morayo apologised as she looked away from the senior and focused on whatever the preacher is preaching

Usher?! Or did I hear wrongly?

I turned and saw the senior at the seat in front of the seat I am sitting. She seems to be warning another person here

"Urgh! In this boring church, how do you expect one not to sleep?" Morayo groaned in annoyance

"Don't call the house of God boring and listen to the word of God instead of complaining" Victoria said to Morayo

...

After the prayer then, praise and worship took over

Different kinds of students, both the juniors and seniors, even some Muslims on hijab entered the Chapel happily as if the praise and worship miracles brought them in

The praises were so dance - able that, students scattered chairs so they can dance properly

The praises were sang in different languages which include the; English, Yoruba, Igbo, Pidgin and few of Hausa songs.

I recognized most of the praises songs so, I just swayed my body or made my feet dance as I listened to them

Morayo and Victoria were dancing. It was as if they were in another world

...

"Let's be in the midst of worship" the person leading the praise and worship suddenly said after ending a praise song

Suddenly, many students ran outside including the Muslims that entered earlier

The church became scanty again

"No worries, the Chapel coordinator will chase the Christians back to the Chapel except if they are also Muslims" Victoria answered my curious questioning look

"They do that a lot. The senior that led praise and worship knows the right dance - able songs that comes after that is why, you see most students entering in like ants going after a sugar" Morayo responded with a smile

"Lol, is it that they find the sermon boring? Or whichever reason do they have to leave the Chapel after praises?" I asked curiously as I saw the students leave the Chapel

"PRAISE THY LORD!" An adult hailed as he stood behind the podium to face the congregation

"Hallelujah!" That came the roars of the students to the response of the adult

"USHERS, PLEASE CLOSE ALL THE DOORS. NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO GO OUTSIDE DURING CHURCH SERVICE!" the adult ordered as he instructed all the ushers intentionally referring to the students escaping sermon "DECORUM!" the adult said as everyone settled down quietly and looked at the adult

"This man means business now" Morayo whispered jokingly

"You better be quiet or the usher will make you stand throughout the Chapel's service" Victoria warned Morayo while whispering

I just sat still bewildered by how everything is going.
