Chapter Three

Present time

It didn't take long for all my clothes to be packed into one suitcase. Tara was a great person, but it was hard for her to divide up money between all the house guests, so we only had so many clothing items apiece.

"You're really leaving?"

I see the look of devastation on Ally's face. I feel the same way, I love this girl, I have for eight years.

I feel like such an ass for my words yesterday. That's always my approach to any relationship, just pushing them away, and hurting them like my mama hurt me.

I see the tears rolling down her face. Allie has been the best person in my life, really the only person who I care about.

I sit on the bed, and I pat my leg, opening my arms to her. Allie and I are in a sexual relationship, breaking the rules of the group home.

She sits on my leg, and I move the strain of silky hair behind her ear.

"I am sorry, Alls. I hurt you and I didn't mean it, baby."

She looks at me with those beautiful eyes. She brings her lips to mine, kissing me sweetly. I try to calm myself and not get too excited.

"I love you Smoke." I smile hearing my girl say the words I feel in my heart.

"I love you so very much."

She laughs and rubs her nose against mine.

"I am going to come back, and visit."

"What if I come with you?"

"No, Alls. You need to stay here and finish school. It's important, you're so smart."

She nods.

"I have a few things I need to explore. I want to find out who I am. I'll come back to visit, and then when you turn Eighteen, we'll both leave together."

"You promise?"

"I promise."

I feel her lips on mine again. The taste of her mouth excites me.

"Allie Johnson, you're not supposed to be here." I couldn't help but laugh at Tara's stern voice. She tries to have control over us and install that will be a punishment, but deep down inside we all know that she's too much of a softy.

"Sorry, Miss. Tara."

Allie gives me one last look before she walks out of my room.

Tara handed me an envelope, it was thick. Opening it up, my eyes were shocked to see it was full of cash. I wonder where she could have gotten all this money.

"I can't accept this." I held out my hand back to her with the envelope in it.

"You must."

"You need this money to help run the group home."

"Smoke, this has been money I've been saving for you since you arrived. A little bit each week. This way you would have something for when you leave. Please accept the money, it will make me feel much better knowing you have a financial start."

I nod. "Thank you."

"I believe in you, and I know you're going to do great things if only you believe in yourself."

"Tara, you are the closest thing I've ever had to a mom."

She smiles. In my heart, I know this woman saved my life.

"I love you Smoke."

"I love you too."
