Chapter Ten

It was so quiet between Ivana and myself that you could hear a pin drop. I press a beer to my lips that I technically stole from the shop. I need to be drunk to get through the rest of this night. I don't know where things are headed between Ivana and me. I am not sure if we can get past this.

She finally sits next to me, and I know she's been upset.

"I guess I realized there are things you care about more than me."

I look her in the eyes. "Allie and I are a thing of the past, but once I love somebody, I always love somebody, and I couldn't let you kill her."

She nods. "I am sorry."

"For trying to kill my friend?"

She laughs. "Yeah, I guess that happened over jealousy."

I gently rub her cold face.

"Were you sincere when you said you loved me?"

I nod. But if I'm being honest, I'm not sure.

She rubs her nose against mine. If only I could change this vampire's heart.

"I have something to show you."

"Okay." I raise an eyebrow. I really wasn't into surprises. Especially today.

Then I see a face that I don't want to see. A face I never had any intention to ever see.

"Son."

"Do not call me that I am not your son."

"Chill out, smoke," Ivana tells me, gently grabbing my arm.

"Gatlin, I need your help."

"For one, that's not my name anymore, and for two, what could you possibly need me for?"

"To destroy our kind."

I direct my attention to Ivana. "So that's why you're so interested. If I could kill a werewolf, huh? You've been playing me the whole time."

Her eyes hit the ground.

"I got to think about all this."

Ivana looks at me, aware that I am talking about this relationship as well.

Hours later, I threw rocks into a nearby pond. I should just easily walk away. I already hated my father, and my heart will get over Ivana. I wasn't even sure I loved her. I wouldn't hurt another werewolf, and how could my dad? This is just insane.

I hear someone take a seat. I roll my eyes, sensing a male present.

"Ivana is a nice catch."

"She's a cold-blooded killer." I analyzed his face.

"She's a vampire."

"No shit Dad, you are one sharp tool." I roll my eyes.

He laughs. "I know you are wondering why I would want to destroy our kind."

"Yeah, answers would be helpful."

"Their goal is to seize control of the forest and make all creatures obey their wishes."

"They can't be worse than killing everything."

"They are Son." I feel his hand on my shoulder.

"I'll consider everything," I reply, gazing into his cold eyes without feeling compassion for him.
