Lingering heaviness

GASP!

Fil gasped for air, and at the same time, sat up on the bed. Sweats covered her forehead and back, her head throbbing.

"Fil."

Her eyes shook as Jackson's voice assaulted her ear. She winced a little, gazing up at him with shaky eyes. Upon recognizing who it was, Fil leaped into his embrace.

Jackson intuitively hugged her back, glancing at her. He didn't ask or say anything and simply stroked her back. Just now, she was sleeping soundlessly until she started mumbling again and then shouting before waking up.

"It's okay," he cajoled. "It's okay. I'm here, Fil."

Fil clasped his back, feeling her heart race. "I'm scared, Jack."

"I know," he whispered.

Fil buried her face in his shoulders as she tried to recall the vicious nightmare that woke her up. However, the more she tried to recall, the more blurry it became. Even so, the feelings the nightmare had left in her heart remained.
