Alice peeled garlic, cussing slightly as the smell got on her unicorn pyjamas. This was not how she had envisioned spending a public holiday but according to her mother, she had to earn her keep.
Earning her keep was an outrageous statement, it wasn't as though she had asked to be brought into this world.
Left to her alone, she'd choose not to be born if she realized that Alex would be her sibling.
Alice dropped the knife on the counter and looked at her mother whose back was turned. She was washing fruits while whistling and Alice basked in the comforting melody.
"Mama..." Alice started.
"Yes darling? Are you done with that garlic? When I was your age, I'd have peeled two whole basket of that under an hour."
"Without using knife right?" Alice sarcastically added.
