Seriously, what kind of party is this?

It was almost 8 p.m.

Makeup? Checked.

Shoes? Checked.

Nerves? Absolutely checked.

I stared at my reflection in the mirror, smoothing my hands over the white silk dress Jessie had picked out. It was simple but elegant, the fabric hugging my body in all the right places without being too much. The heels felt higher than I was used to, but Jessie insisted they completed the look.

“You look stunning,” Jessie said from behind me.

I turned to face her,“are you sure this isn’t too much?”

Jessie rolled her eyes. “Halle, for the tenth time—no, it’s perfect. Trust me, Jason’s jaw is dropping when he sees you.”

I swallowed hard, my heart thudding at the thought. Jason had never seen me dressed like this before. Would he think it was too much? Or worse… would he not even notice?

Jessie must’ve seen the hesitation in my face because she grabbed my shoulders and turned me back toward the mirror.
