I finally arrive back at the hotel, heart pounding as I quickly dial Becky's number. The phone barely rings twice before she picks up.

"Becky, it's me."

I say, trying to keep my voice steady.

"How are the twins? Are they okay?"

She sounds surprised but calm, instantly reassuring.

"They're doing great, Kattie. They're actually having a blast with us. We've been playing games and planning a little movie night. They seem happy."

A rush of relief floods through me, easing some of the tension that's been building up since I left Chris's place.

"Thank you, Becky."

I say, feeling a knot in my chest loosen.

"I can't tell you how much it means to me. It's just… things got really tense, and I didn't want them around all of it. They don't deserve this chaos."

She sighs, a warmth in her tone.
