Chapter 8: Slapped with the Truth

"Fine. I'll do it. I, Vivian Summers, reject you, Finn Riker, as my mate."

Her words struck me like an anvil to the chest. I held my composure, staring at her. Despite her talking about rejection, I hadn't expected her to actually do it.

My mind whirled for a moment. In my head, my wolf howled in protest. He was agitated and upset and I couldn't blame him. If I wasn't holding it together, I'd be howling from the rooftops, too.

It felt like the ground slipped out from under me and I was falling through an endless void of blackness and confusion. I couldn't stop staring at Vivian. It was like she was the only thread that bound me to the earth, to my life.
