Vivian
Did I wake from a pleasant dream into some kind of nightmare? I stared at Marian and Finn's hands interlocked.
What was going on?
I tried to sit up, resting my weight on my elbows, but one of my elbows slipped. I grunted and collapsed on the pillows.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Marian and Finn drop hands immediately. They both seemed startled.
"Vivian." Finn stood up. He seemed rigid and tense but his voice spoke my name softly for the first time.
I met his eyes for a moment and I saw a brief flicker of relief pass through them. He cleared his throat and composed himself. Coming around the bed, Finn checked the beeping machine next to me.
I realized it was something monitoring my vitals.
"I'll get the doctor." Without another word, or look, Finn left.
Slowly, I turned to Marian. So many questions ran through my mind, including what she was doing holding hands with Finn.
"Oh, my Goddess! Vivian, I can't believe it!" Marian threw herself on top of me.
