Voices murmured in the distance. They sounded like they were underwater. My ears felt like they were full of cotton.

A drum pounded steadily, thumping through my head and my body with deep, resonating vibrations. No, it wasn't a drum, it was my throbbing head pounding with blood.

My skin crawled with the feeling of dirty hands pawing and groping at me.

Gasping, I ripped my eyes open, my breast rising and falling heavily. I remembered being in the gardens of the compound, getting jumped by several Sablepelt soldiers. Those same soldiers were standing, and talking, just a few feet away from me.

There were a couple of little slit-like windows but no light streamed in. Either they were covered or it was still nighttime.
