Chapter 42: Surgical Strike

Finn didn’t say a word as we drove to the private facility. His hands clenched in his lap until his knuckles turned white.

I held my breath, waiting for him to say something.

We got the call before sunrise and we’d barely taken time to get dressed before rushing off the compound.

Luce and Grace were already there. They stayed overnight with Felix. Grace looked thinner and paler than usual. She probably hadn’t slept. Luce was red in the face, visibly trembling.

“How is he?” Finn asked when he got out of the car.

“It’s bad, Finn,” Grace said.

Luce growled and I saw how bright and feral her eyes were. I wouldn’t be surprised if she shifted and tore the place apart.

“What happened?”

“You’ll have to wait until Asher gets here. He’s the one who found…” Grace trailed off and looped her arm through Luce’s. “Why don’t we check on Felix. He might be conscious again.”
