Chapter 01: Isn't this a too much of a cliche?

The sunlight streaked through the drapes slowly as if afraid to wake up the man lying on the bed.

"Ughh," a quiet groan reverberated throughout the room.

The man on the bed slowly sat up as he grabbed his head. His pearl blonde hair fluttered when a refreshing breeze trickled by him.

"Am I in a hospital ?"

He muttered in a mumble. It didn't feel like a hospital room. There were no smell of blood and wails of agony around him that he often associated with a hospital .

After a moment, the man raised his head to observe his surroundings. His galaxy blue eyes widened in surprise and his mind went blank when he saw the room.

The room he slept didn't look like it belonged in modern times at all. If anything it looked as if it belonged in a historical drama set.

The room itself gave off a tranquil atmosphere with its wooden floors and walls. He couldn't understand what had happened.

He removed the quilt and walked with his bare feet towards the only mirror in the room. An androgynous teenage boy around 15 years with porcelain white skin and a lean figure that looked fragile appeared on the mirror.

The moment Su-bin saw the doll like face with delicate features he recognized whose body it was.

Kai Morgan.

He was Su-bin's favourite character in the popular romance webnovel named 'God's grace'.

It was a fantasy genre story with a European history setting. It was a story which the god was the absolute being of the world. But Su-bin never believed in a god.

So it was even harder for him to understand and accept this kind of a situation. Other than a god who else can do something like this ?

'Is this a dream ?'   

Su-bin thought in a daze. He pinched his wrist hard.

"Oww." He exclaimed in pain.

'So this isn't a dream. What kind of a situation is this ? I can't believe that I transmigrated as my favourite character.'

         He tried to clear his mind and organize his thoughts. But...

"Isn't this too much of a cliche ?"

      Su-bin asked himself with the most deadpan expression he could muster.

"If I am in his body, my original body must have died at the accident."

He pursed his lips and closed his eyes. His mind was still chaotic despite him trying to calm down. He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.

Kim Su-bin was driving home when his car got into an accident. He was pretty sure his wounds were fatal. So he must have died.

'It's worth trying to live as Kai Morgan. Since I can't go back, let's live this life tenaciously as possible. First, there are few things I have to find out.'

There wasn't much that he will miss. He had no family or lovers. His company and all assets will be passed onto Park Tae-min as his heir. So he had nothing that would tie him into that world.

With his mind made up, Su-bin - no - now Kai Morgan opened his eyes. Even though the delicate face that appeared on the mirror looked expressionless, a glimmer of determination could be seen in his eyes.

Suddenly Kai's eyes narrowed. He scrutinised his appearance that appeared on the mirror. According to the novel, Kai had black hair like the night sky and green eyes like emeralds. Not pearl blonde hair and galaxy blue eyes.

"But this face is definitely his."

             He was sure because Kai's picture on the book cover showed exactly this face.

'Well... It's better to confirm than speculate.'

         He raised a delicate hand towards the necklace around his neck. It was a necklace left behind by his late mother. A blue locket with silver roses engraved in it, dangled from the silver chain.

He opened the locket to find his late mother's wedding ring and a piece of a ruby gem. The ruby looked as if it was halved in two. The novel often mentioned how Kai used to gaze at the locket when he had a hard time. He treasured the keepsakes his mother left to him.

'So I really am Kai then.'

        He let out a sigh as he bit his lips. It wouldn't have been much of a problem if he had different coloured hair in any other world. But not this.

The world of 'God's grace' where the god was known as the one who held ultimate power, the author of the webnovel had created a strange background about the mortals that the god cherishes. In this world, there were very few people that the god cherished.

It was believed that if a person has blonde hair that shines like the sun, that person was a cherished being. Closer a person's hair colour was to white, more the god cherishes that person and more blessed that person is.

'Well... It's not like it's wrong.'

       Kai thought as he observed his shoulder length hair. When he first started reading the webnovel, he thought it was stupid at first. How can someone tell if a person is cherished just by his hair, that was his first thought about that setting.

But he got more immersed in the story after Kai's character appeared in the novel. In that story, only a handful of characters had such hair.

The royal family of the empire, the saintess, a few high ranking priests in the holy church. They all had shining blonde hair of various shades. But none the colour of pearl blonde that it looked almost like white.

'His hair looks almost white in colour. Did Kai hide his hair colour in the story ?'

        Though he maintained an expressionless face, his eyes turned chaotic.

'Whatever. It works fine for me.'

          He suppressed a shudder as he imagined himself being dragged into the church to serve as a priest.

'Knowing the story as I do, no way am I going to work for those bastards. Though I have no idea why original Kai Morgan hid his hair colour ?'

In a world that preached about the holy teachings and serving the god, being born with such hair is considered a blessing. The divine power was a cherished power as well. After that came, magic and sword aura practiced by mages and swordsmen.

These were the only powers that existed in this world until the plot started. All of a sudden, people around the continent started awakening with strange powers. Unlike the divine power that came from the god and the sword aura and magic that were derived from the mana in the nature, origin of these powers was unknown.

Therefore lots of superstitions surrounded the awakened people. At first non-awakened people accused the awakened people as devil practitioners. The holy church was the one that manipulated people into doing it at first from the shadows. They were wary of the shift of the balance between the powers.

So people started believing that these powers came from the demon world. After that the awakened people started getting scorned, despised and discriminated. It didn't matter to most people whether the awakened person was a lover, a friend or a family member. Some people even went far as killing children that awakened young. It was such a tragedy.

      As the story progressed, the standing of the awakened people started to get better due to the efforts of some of the awakened people that participated in conquering the dungeons that spawned suddenly. Kai Morgan was the most prevalent character that helped in bettering the perspective of people. He was loved by the commoners, envied by the nobles. But...

'Then he got executed at the end of the story as the villain.'

      Kai's indifferent eyes glinted with cold fury. 

"I complained so much about his death at the forum."

          Kai Morgan was the most popular character among all the characters of the webnovel despite not being a male lead. Many fans were confused at first when he was labelled as a traitor.

When the reason for him being labelled as a traitor was revealed, the fans were outraged. The accusation that led him to his death was that he tried to kill the saintess because he got discovered by her as the demon king.

'What a load of nonsense.'

Kai Morgan came from a commoner background and joined the first battalion of the 'Renegades of Dawn', known as the 'Shadow Heralds'. Then he became the battalion leader of the Shadow Heralds. He worked tirelessly and faced many hardships until he became the commander of the Renegades.

Renegades of Dawn was an organization that consisted of three battalions with one knight battalion, one mage battalion and one special ability user battalion. It was established by the imperial prince, Michael De Emmanuel to counteract the dungeons that spawned around the Emmanuel empire.

'That was the surface objective of that organization. Not the real purpose.'

      Kai thought as he walked towards the window.

The one who raised the organization 'Renegades of Dawn' to its power was none other than Kai Morgan. He was also the one who gave the organization the name 'Renegades of Dawn' after becoming the commander along with the names of the battalions.

The original Kai is the reason that awakened people went from known as the devil worshippers to the special ability users. His efforts paved a way for then to be accepted into the society again. There's no way such a character was the demon king. If he had such a power, why would he bother with playing around as a commoner, facing so many hardships.

'When I look at his body, it's impossible to ignore that he's one of the cherished mortals of the god with his hair according to the setting of the story.'

         Kai clenched his fist tightly and exclaimed in determination.
