The Past (Part 2)

Monday

"Where did you go?" Claire's father asked, sitting on the rugged green couch as Claire walked in through the door.

Claire found it strange, for she always went out in the morning, but he never bothered asking where she had gone all those times. She didn't question though, and merely answered him.

"I went to the hilltop to read my Bible, as usual." She said, holding her Bible up to show her father

Claire's father walked over to her and viciously grabbed the Bible from her hands.

"What did I tell you about wasting your time with this rubbish?" His growl was low and dangerous, the words laced with bitterness. He tossed the Bible on the chipped coffee table between them, the thud emphasizing his disdain. "You need to wake up and realise that we are the only ones who have control over our lives, not some God. Where was He when your mother...when she left, huh? Stop this nonsense and focus on having real dreams, like your friend Raine. Why can't you be more like her?"
