Let Go

A pair of eyes shot open in the dark.

Doron sat up suddenly as he heard the commotion outside.

'What the hell is happening?'

He hurriedly went by the window and pushed the curtains to the side.

There, he saw it.

Demonic humans that relentlessly took the lives of the people.

A memory seemed to flash in his mind as his expression slowly began to darken.

Knock! Knock!!

The sounds of hurried knocking snapped Doron out of his daze.

He opened the door and saw Dahlia.

"Uncle Doron, what's happening?"

Doron remained silent for a few moments before kneeling in front of her, "Nothing, just go back to sleep, okay?"

"Uncle, do I look like I'm scared?"

Her words surprised him.

Unbeknownst to himself, Doron had started to see Dahlia as his daughter which made him treat her with utmost carefulness.

Like a fragile glass that would break upon the slightest touch.

Doron gritted his teeth and said, "There are demonic humans attacking the city. So we must not go out."

"But is that what you really want?" Dahlia asked softly.

In the time that they were together, Dahlia had also learned about what happened to Doron's wife and daughter.

Therefore, she knew what he truly wanted deep within.

Hearing her, Doron felt something in his heart.

The faces of the two most important people in his life vividly appeared as he closed his eyes.

The memories of a beautiful woman and a cute little girl laughing as they ate their lunch on a simple day.

The pleasant memories with his wife and daughter.

As well as the look on their dying faces.

He was a victim of those demonic humans.

And one thing that he promised upon the graves of his wife and daughter was the fact that he would wipe every demonic human off the surface of this world.

He would never let anyone experience the same pain that he felt back then.

His eyes soon opened, revealing determination within them.

He placed his hands over Dahlia's shoulders.

"Lock the doors and make sure to not make any sound. If there's an intruder, then I trust that you would be able to defend yourself."

"Don't worry, Uncle! I'm at the One Star Realm now! If I can't win, I can just run!!" Dahlia responded, smiling.

Doron stared in her eyes, seemingly etching her face in his mind.

He then ruffled her shell-pink hair and stood up, walking over to a huge war axe that was at least two meters in length.

Dahlia looked at the bulky man wielding a war axe that was bigger than his stature.

She was amazed.

"This won't take long."

Doron said as he jumped from the window and attacked a demonic human on the way.

Swoosh— Clank!!!

A loud sound reverberated as the two-meter war axe clashed with a dagger.

"Ho? You were able to defend against my surprise attack?" Doron looked at the demonic human before him.

"T-Thank you!" The civilian who was being attacked by the demonic human thanked Doron before scurrying away.

Doron didn't pay him any heed and instead kept staring at the demonic human.

'Strange…'

Among all the demonic humans that he had killed in his journey, this one seemed a little strange.

They had a small stature, like that of a child's.

Yet, they were able to defend against an attack of his- a Master Warrior.

Seeing their eyes that were pitch-black and their expressions that were filled with bloodlust and insanity, his eyes darkened.

Doron glanced behind him and saw that the window he jumped out of had now been closed.

The lights were also off and the curtains were covering the window.

'I can finally let loose.' Doron grinned.

Brandishing his large war axe, he rushed towards the demonic human.

Clink— Clang— Tang!!!

However, the results remained the same.

Hisss—

The demonic human in front of him let out strange inhumane sounds.

Doron started to feel something amiss.

Wungggg—

Four glowing stars soon shone on his left chest, "Let's see how you'll defend against this!"

The demonic human could only see a blur as Doron instantly appeared in front of him.

***

'Something is wrong.'

Regis thought as he looked at the city in the distance.

He had been tasked by the demonic human leader to remain where he was while the others attacked the city.

According to the demonic human leader, he was supposed to have a special mission as his general.

'He said that he would give a sign, but…'

Regis kept feeling that something was tugging on his heart.

However, he still didn't want to blow his cover.

Therefore, Regis decided to stay put for just a little more time.

Wungggggg—!!!!

That was until he felt something on his right hand, more precisely on the tattoo on it.

"Fuck!"

Since the first village that they had raided, he hadn't really paid any attention to the tattoo on his right hand.

After all, the demonic human leader told them that it didn't really do anything and was only a form of surveillance.

That was the very mistake that he had committed- trusting the demonic human leader.

Now, Regis felt helpless and angry as he sensed the tattoo shining as the patterns on it slowly extended to his whole body.

Along with it, he could feel the demonic power in his body became chaotic.

'What do I do?'

Regis still felt hesitant.

He didn't want to expose his power after all this time, afraid of what means the demonic human leader might have.

However, this moment of hesitation was something he regretted in the next second.

As someone who had fully adapted to demonic power, sensing other people's demonic power was easy for him.

Now, he could only watch as he sensed a massive amount of demonic power erupting from Toran City.

What made him more apprehensive was the fact that the demonic power signatures of Greg and Lea became extremely chaotic.

It was like what was happening to him, the only difference was his control over demonic power was nigh-absolute.

However, even with this, Regis could feel the demonic power wanting to take over his body.

'If this is also happening to them, then I'm afraid that…'

They would fully be consumed by the demonic power.

It was what Regis was afraid to say.

"Argh! Fuck it!" He cursed as determination flashed in his eyes.

He had let go.

Worries of what the demonic human leader might do.

Worries of what would happen if his power were to be exposed.

Worries of the future.

'I had been too careful. My worries for the future means nothing if there is no future.'

Regis thought as a black glowing star shone on his chest as he unleashed his power.

The star formed by demonic power was strange.

It was pitch-black and yet, it could glow and emit light- it was contradictory.

The demonic tattoo that was trying to take control of him were instantly tamed as they stopped spreading.

'Greg… Lea… Please be safe.'

Regis thought as he fully utilized his demonic power and sprinted towards Toran City.
