Alexia felt her phone vibrate in her pocket, and she pulled it out to see who was calling. Her heart jumped when she saw the name on the screen: "Darling." That was the name she had given to David, the man she had been living with for the past two years. He wasn't her real husband, but they had agreed to keep up the pretense to keep her children happy. Seeing his name on the screen made her feel guilty all over again.
She hesitated for a moment, then answered the call.
"Hello?" she said, her voice trembling slightly.
David's voice came through the phone, sounding concerned. "Are you okay? You sound upset."
Alexia took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice. "I'm fine," she said, forcing a smile. "Just had a long day."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," David said. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Alexia thought for a moment, then shook her head, even though he couldn't see her. "No, it's nothing I can't handle. I just need to rest."

Alexia's voice played over and over again in his mind, like a broken record. "It's over. We're done. I'm moving on."
He had tried to fight for her, to make her stay. But she had been adamant. She had left him, and now she was with someone else. And he was alone.
Elijah felt the rage rising within him, threatening to consume him. He wanted to smash something, to feel the glass shattering beneath his fist. He wanted to lash out, to hurt someone, to make them feel the pain he was feeling. But he knew that was the alcohol talking, the liquor clouding his judgment. He couldn't let himself give in to the anger, no matter how tempting it was.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. But the memories kept flooding back, and the anger kept building. He felt like a caged animal, trapped by his own emotions. He needed to get out of the house, to get some air. He drained the rest of his anger and frustration
