Alexia was about to head for the bus stop, when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned, and there was Elijah, a concerned look on his face. "Are you okay?" he asked. "You look exhausted."
"I'm fine," she said, though she wasn't sure if that was true. "I just need some sleep."
"How about I give you a ride home?" he offered. "It's no trouble."
Alexia slumped against the window of the car, her eyes closed. The ride home was silent, save for the soft hum of the engine. Alexia felt herself drifting off, her exhaustion taking over. But then, she felt the car stop, and she sat up with a start.
"We're here," Elijah said, his voice gentle. Alexia looked out the window and saw her apartment building. She turned to Elijah, unsure of what to say. "Thank you," she finally managed, her words coming out in a whisper.
"You're welcome," he said, a soft smile on his face. And then
Just as Alexia was about to open the door, Elijah spoke again. "Good night, Alexia," he said. "I hope you get some rest."
Alexia paused, her hand still on the door handle. She looked at him, their eyes meeting in the darkness. "Good night, Elijah," she said, her voice barely audible. And then, she opened the door and stepped out into the night.
