Kappa, originating from the upper reaches of China's Yellow River, was known as "Water Tiger" or "Uncle He" in ancient times.
In "You Ming Lu," this creature is recorded as "water insect," also called "insect child" or "water spirit," standing about 60 centimeters to 1 meter tall, weighing around 45 kilograms, resembling a child between 3 to 10 years old, looking like a mix between a human and a monkey. Their body emits a foul smell and is covered in slime.
According to Yan Moshan, Kappa is an amphibious beast, hence their preference for residing in caves close to rivers. Their skin is very slick and well-adapted to living in such damp environments. Kappa can change the color of their skin like chameleons, matching the surrounding environment, but they are mostly green.
