Upon hearing Granny Mo's words, Lu Qingqing was taken aback.
"Someone came to inquire about me? Do you know who it was?" She was quite concerned about her privacy and safety, so naturally, she needed to get clarity.
She lived alone, so better safe than sorry.
Granny Mo earnestly said, "It was a woman in her fifties or sixties, accompanied by a girl in her twenties, not the local accent, but similar to how you sounded when you first arrived. They saw me walking my dog downstairs and struck up a conversation, asking if you lived on this floor and if I knew you. I played it smart and said I knew you, wanting to find out what they were up to. Guess what they asked about?"
"What did they ask?" A vague unease began to form in Lu Qingqing's mind.
"They asked if I was aware of your specific circumstances, whether this apartment was registered in your name, when you bought it, how much you earn in a month, when you settled here, if you had a good personality, and how you got along with others. They also asked who you usually associated with. I just said you were a writer, who attended Pengcheng University, and that you've been living here for five or six years, mostly keeping to yourself except for your boyfriend and Tang Tang. I haven't seen you mingle with others, and as for how much you earn, that's not something people disclose to strangers."
Lu Qingqing's brow furrowed, "Did you ask them who they were?"
Despite her age, Granny Mo, a former head of the Women's Federation and an intellectual, was very sharp.
Granny Mo replied with a smile, "How could I not ask? You know what? They said they were your boyfriend's mother and sister, claiming that you were about to get married. They wanted to get the lowdown on you before the meeting to avoid being duped. Qingqing, are you really getting married? Don't forget to send us wedding candies and invitations to share in the joy when the date is set."
Lu Qingqing, like Granny Mo, was one of the first homeowners at Rose Garden.
Other than going to school, Lu Qingqing spent the rest of her time living in Rose Garden, leading a disciplined and healthy life reminiscent of a retired official, often encountering the numerous uncles and aunties during her morning and evening exercises. When she bumped into the elderly while shopping, she would lend a hand with their groceries, which over time led to forming close relationships with many of them.
If it weren't for the fact she already had a boyfriend, the enthusiastic elders would have introduced her to their younger relatives long ago.
"Don't tease me, I'm only twenty-six this year. My grandparents, and my parents haven't even met my boyfriend yet, let alone both families, we're far from reaching the stage of marriage."
"Twenty-six isn't exactly young. When I was your age, I already had three kids," said Granny Mo, laughing merrily before continuing, "But society is different now. A pretty and capable girl like you should take time to choose carefully. It's crucial to consider not only a boy's character and appearance but also his family background. From what I see, your boyfriend's mother and sister don't seem easy to get along with, all sharp-eyed and greedy."
Lu Qingqing agreed wholeheartedly, "I will remember what you said."
The fact that Chen's mother came here to snoop around when nothing was official made Lu Qingqing feel like her privacy had been invaded, and she wasn't pleased about it. So, when she saw Chen Yuxuan waiting at the entrance of Rose Garden to pick her up, she didn't greet him with a smile.
"Qingqing, what's wrong? Who has upset you?" Chen Yuxuan was extremely surprised and quickly took over the gift she was carrying.
One should know, Lu Qingqing was a girl with a good temperament, normally calm and composed, rarely getting angry.
Lu Qingqing looked at him coldly, "You don't know what your mother and your sister have done?"
"What have they done?" Chen Yuxuan was visibly shocked.
"You didn't know they came to Rose Garden?"
