Chapter 685: Street Observations 1_1

Hong Kong does not prevent its citizens from determining the gender of their fetuses because Hong Kong has abortion laws.

Unauthorized termination of pregnancy can be punished with up to seven years of imprisonment, and if the fetus is twenty-eight weeks or older, it constitutes the "destruction of a child" offense under the Offences Against the Person Ordinance, which can result in a life sentence.

Incidents such as infants being born in toilets and flushed down or abandoned, as often happen on the mainland, are illegal in Hong Kong.

No matter whether the baby is born alive or dead, abandoning it constitutes a crime, punishable with up to two years in prison.
