Chapter 6

After approximately ten minutes of remaining still, Chantrieri began to move once again. Distant booming sounds could be heard as the salamander-like klaxosaur that sized over 400 meters could be seen hastily approaching their way. 

Naomi audibly gulped, her face paling, and sweat trickling down her cheeks as Adam turned Chantrieri to face that monster. As the monster's small mountain-sized figure drew near, the quaking of the ground became stronger.

"Let's see... first," Adam activated Chantrieri's weapons.

Four sharp tentacle-like limbs sprouted from Chantrieri's back, just a tad bit above her tailbone. These four limbs were wide and thick, clad in black-steel with unique, faint, blue glowing markings that made these limbs feel alive. These four limbs curved towards the approaching klaxosaur, pointing at it as if identifying the enemy.

Chantrieri lowered her body into a squat before launching herself high up in the air. Her leap was strong enough to leave a trace of small cracks on the ground as she reached dozens of feet in a matter of seconds. The klaxosaur howled, its eyes zeroing on the small figure of Chantrieri. Its howl was so loud that created deafening shockwaves on a wide range, making even the air tremble upon the pressure. Chantrieri twisted her body sideways, allowing her to pierce through the wind pressure and approach the klaxosaur from the sky.

Naomi, who was piloting Chantrieri with Adam, squealed in fear as her eyes began to tearing up when they closed into the fearsome klaxosaur. Even though she said she would trust Adam, which she really wanted to, it was very hard to do so when they were facing such a nightmare of a gargantuan opponent. Additionally, one should know that she only met Adam a few hours ago. No matter how strong his charm is or how unique his constitution was, it wouldn't change the fact that they had just only met.

Therefore, even if Naomi really wanted to give her whole trust in him, a small part of her kept telling her to run and escape. This small distrust or miscommunication between pilots should prove deadly as it could even lead to losing control of the FRANXX. Of course, even if this was the case, Adam was still confident that he was in full control of the situation. That if Naomi were to be overwhelmed with fear, he had several methods of bringing her back from it.

The moment Chantrieri reached a few meters closer to the klaxosaur's head, two of her sharp tentacle-like limbs, the upper-right and lower-right shot forward together at great speed. It twisted together and merged into a single large sharp tentacle that stabbed directly towards the klaxosaur's right eye.

The klaxosaur howled in pain, but Chantrieri wasn't finished with her impaling attack as she followed it up by spilitting the conjoined tentacles into and stabbing in two separate directions while it was lodged deep inside the eye socket. Using that as a hook, Chantrieri pulled herself towards the kalxosaur's large face before slamming her left hand, supported by the upper-left and lower-left tentacle limbs, to stab deep into the klaxosaur's already wounded eye.

"GRAOOOO!!!!!"

Assaulted by such an unimaginable pain, the klaxosaur began frantically shaking its head, desperate to get rid of Chantrieri who was mutilating its head from its right eye socket. Seeing as how its attempt didn't work, the klaxosaur impatiently rammed its head towards the ground before digging and burying itself with frightening speed. Its movement was akin to a fish in a water; half of its head was already underground in a matter of seconds.

Chantrieri naturally jumped away from the klaxosaur to avoid being brought underneath the earth along with it. The klaxosaur mountainous body submerged deep into the ground, leaving Adam and Naomi wondering where it went. If not for the constant rumbling underneath them, they would've thought that it escaped.

Just then, the ground surrounding them began trembling violently as an area of an approximately 200 meters in circumference around them began cracking and shattering. Bright blue blinding lights began shining in the midst of those cracks, making Adam aware that the klaxosaur was about to release a very strong attack.

"A-a-a-a-adam!!!" Naomi's face was pale as sheets as she saw this ominous attack stretching for a very wide distance around them. It reached so far that even if they were to run now, they would still get hit by it.

Soon enough, the entire area affected by the bright blue light was leveled into the sky. Broken pieces of earth and debris was violently pushed upward, leaving Chantrieri helplessly pushed upwards along with the earth piece that they were standing on which now turned into a small platform.

The interior of the cockpit shook very violently, making Naomi close her eyes in fear as she desperately held unto her seat. Meanwhile, Adam's clear sapphire blue eyes was calmly analyzing their current situation.

'Chantrieri specializes in agility and mobility. Capitalizing on it's lightweight frame to maintain distance to deliver precise and devastating attacks on the enemy's weakness. Meanwhile, I thought our opponent was a simple Gutenberg-class klaxosaur. Turns out that it was already nearing Super Lehmann-class as it can hide underground and release powerful massive scale attacks without being exposed.'

'Conclusion; I made a mistake in assessment and now we need to escape.' Once Adam concluded his thoughts, he immediately willed Chantrieri to flee, only to recall that they had been disconnected due to Naomi's fear. 'Seems like I've got to take care of this first.'

Without saying another word, Adam let go of the control handles and touched Naomi's perky rear that was covered by her body suit. Fortunately, just like the earlier case, they were way faster than the klaxosaur, even if it was nearing the Super Lehmann-class. So Adam was confident that they could escape it. But just for safe measure, he didn't stop running at max speed for an entire hour.

By the time that Chantrieri stopped to rest, it was already night time. Adam slumped back into the pilot's seat as beads of sweat dripped down his face. Meanwhile, seating in front of him with a bending over position, was Naomi who was barely conscious. Her lower lips and anus were still exposed to him, but she seemed to exhausted to think about it. But when she was about to question how they would pilot it, her lips were suddenly stolen by his.

Not only did they manage to wound it, but they also escaped it safely. His skills were put to the test most especially when the moment they were escaping the destroyed area while dodging the countless raining debris that fell from the skies with the majority of those debris sizing to an entire boulder that could easily flatten them. A single mistake could've cost both of their lives.

'Perhaps that's why he asked me to put my trust in him.'

Of course, the kiss mainly contributed to why she agreed. But after witnessing his skills yesterday, she knew for a fact that she didn't make any mistake and that she could put her entire trust in him. Be that as it may, this definitely does not excuse him for his recklessness.

Sure, Adam showed not only great piloting skills, but also his courageous and fearless attitude which, honestly, as much as she didn't want to admit it, made him more attractive in her eyes— even if she was totally against facing that klaxosaur without a proper plan or back-up in the first place. What he convinced her to do was terribly careless and reckless, even if he was confident as a pilot.

She was definitely going to reprimand him later. He was going to be her partner after all.

Just as she was thinking that, Naomi suddenly grew hesitant.

'...Should I really voice out my complaints? I mean, it was because of him that I was able to stay... so I shouldn't be ungrateful to him.... but what if it makes him dislike me? What if he thought that I was a nagging woman?'

'.....' Naomi definitely did not want that.

"Just what are you thinking so deeply in the morning, Partner?"

"!!!" It was at that moment, Naomi realize that her partner was awake.

"A-adam..."

"Morning."

'Uwa...' Seeing his smile first thing in the morning was terribly bad for her heart.

Adam shifted his body slightly so that he could turn to face Naomi properly. Now, they were laying side by side with Naomi using his left arm as a pillow.

Naomi found herself staring into his mesmerizingly beautiful sapphire eyes. She gathered herself for a few seconds, before taking a deep breath and speaking to Adam resolutely.

"I was thinking about yesterday."

Adam stared at her for a few moments before closing his eyes and sighing. "I'm sorry."

"...." Naomi was slightly taken aback as she didn't expect Adam to sincerely apologize.

Adam continued, "Yesterday must've been scary for you, right? And after I made you give your trust to me and all that. I admit. I was arrogant and stupid for facing that klaxosaur recklessly."

Hearing his sincere apology melted away all the anger and complains Naomi had in her heart. No wait... she wasn't this easy, right?

Adam opened his eyes and gently said, "Could you find it in your heart to forgive me? And give me another chance?"

Naomi, being the receiving end of his apology, felt her heart beating wildly once again. She couldn't deny it any longer. She was that easy.

"...O-okay..."

Adam smiled and kissed her forehead.

"Thank you, Partner."

"....." Naomi's face turned red once again, making her hide her embarrassment by hiding her face on Adam's chest as she nodded in response to Adam's words.

Just as she was beginning to feel hot, she suddenly felt a chill breeze through her crotch, making her sit up in surprise.
