Defensively, I shot up from the ground and squared up immediately. From his scent, I could tell that he wasn't that strong, but it was probably best to remain alert. There was no telling if he would attack or not, and I was not willing to risk the safety of my baby for any reason whatsoever.
"Who are you?" He asked, his deep baritone voice filled with genuine curiosity and suspicion.
"I'm sorry for bothering you, I'll be on my way soon." I replied as I hastily picked up my baby from where he lay. I attempted to push past him, but he held me back. His grip was strong, but at the same time caring.
"You're carrying a baby, and it's already late. It's not advisable for a lady like you to be walking around this late at night. You can come in, if you want." He offered.
I took a minute to take a good look at his face. He didn't seem to be hiding anything behind his worried expression, and nothing particularly seemed off about him.
