I picked myself up from the cold, hard ground, my knees trembling beneath me. The tears that had been falling from.my eyed had begun to dry up, and were leaving tear marks. I didn't bother wiping them away; what was the point? The sadness in my heart was too heavy, and no amount of wiping could clear the anguish from my soul.
I tried to steady myself, gripping the edge of the wall as I walked. My mind was a whirlwind of confusion, each thought piercing deeper than the last. I staggered towards my room, the hallway stretching endlessly before me. Every step felt like I was dragging lead weights, my body and spirit equally exhausted.
