The Black Star Monarch

The little black kitten jumped between the shadows in the courtyard for a while before getting bored, curling into a ball once more, and beginning to purr. Li Jun struggled to understand what was going on.

'Shadows aren't physical, are they? How can it disappear into a shadow?' No matter how much he tried to think about it, he couldn't understand what was going on. It was a concept that he hadn't even thought of before, but he couldn't dispute its existence since he had seen it with his own eyes.

He, too, tried blending into the shadow of the old apple tree a few times before realizing it wouldn't work. It seemed to be a special skill specific to the black kitten.

He crouched down and looked at the kitten once more. He knew that if he tried to reach towards the ring on its leg, it would bite him. The kitten slowly wagged its tail as though it were a snake preparing to strike.
