"Ican't break it."

"Whatkind of deal?" Kaito asks.

"Ican't tell you that either," Sayaka says.

Kaitois frustrated and confused.

"Ijust want to help you," he says.

"Youcan't," Sayaka says.

"Please,just let me try," Kaito says.

"It'stoo late," Sayaka says.

"There'snothing you can do."

"Whatcan I do, then?" Kaito asks.

"Youcan live your life," Sayaka says.

"Don'tgive up."

"Promiseme that," Sayaka says.

"Ipromise," Kaito says.

"Goodbye,Kaito," Sayaka says.

"Don'tforget me."

"Iwon't," Kaito says.

"Ilove you."

Sayaka'sbody fades away, and Kaito is left alone in the darkness.

Thenext day, Kaito goes to school.

Heis distracted and quiet, and he doesn't pay attention in class.

Atlunch, his friends ask him what's wrong.

Kaitotells them about his ability and about his dreams.

Hisfriends are shocked and worried.

Theyask him if he's okay, and he tells them he will be.

"Justpromise me one thing," Kaito says. "If something happens tome, don't give up. Don't stop trying to find the truth."

"Wepromise," his friends say.

Afterschool, Kaito goes home and tries to relax.

Hewatches TV and reads a book, but he can't stop thinking about Sayaka.

Hecan't stop thinking about what she said.

Hewonders what she meant by her deal and what it has to do with herdeath.

Hewonders if he can find out more about her death.

Hegoes into his room and closes the door.

Hefocuses on his ability, and he tries to stop time.

Theroom spins, and Kaito opens his eyes.

Tohis surprise, the room is still and silent.

Heis in the dark hallway again, and he sees Sayaka's body lying on thefloor.

Sayakaopens her eyes and looks at him.

"Hello,Kaito," she says.

"Howdid you know it was me?" Kaito asks.

"Ifelt you," Sayaka says.

"Feltme?" Kaito asks.

"Yourability," Sayaka says. "I felt it when you stopped time."

"Doyou have an ability too?" Kaito asks.

"No,"Sayaka says.

"Howdid you know about my ability?" Kaito asks.

"Youtold me," Sayaka says.

Kaitois shocked.

"Howcould I tell you if we haven't met before?" Kaito asks.

"Thisis all a dream, Kaito," Sayaka says. "You're dreaming rightnow."

"Thisisn't a dream," Kaito says. "I'm here, with you."

"You'renot," Sayaka says. "This is all in your head."

Kaitois confused and scared.

"Howis this possible?" he asks.

"Yourability," Sayaka says.

"Yourability is so strong that you're able to enter my mind," sheexplains.

"That'swhy I'm here."

"Idon't understand," Kaito says.

"Yourability is powerful, Kaito," Sayaka says. "You can controltime and enter other people's minds. But you have to be careful."

"Why?"Kaito asks.

"Yourabilities are dangerous, Kaito," Sayaka says. "If you'renot careful, you could get lost or trapped."

"Iwon't get lost," Kaito says.

"Ipromise," Sayaka says.

"Don'tpromise anything," she says. "I need you to listen to me,Kaito."

"I'mlistening," Kaito says.

"Youcan't change what happened," Sayaka says. "My death wasmeant to be."

"Butwhy?" Kaito asks. "Who killed you?"

"Ican't tell you," Sayaka says.

"Thentell me what happened," Kaito says. "Why did this happen toyou?"

"Ican't," Sayaka says. "It's part of the deal."

"Whatdeal?" Kaito asks.

"Thedeal I made," Sayaka says.

"Whatdoes the deal have to do with your death?" Kaito asks.

"Everything,"Sayaka says.

"Whycan't you tell me?" Kaito asks.

"Becauseit's not safe," Sayaka says.

"Iwon't tell anyone," Kaito says.

"Ibelieve you," Sayaka says. "But the ones who made the dealcan't know."

"Whomade the deal?" Kaito asks.

"Ican't tell you," Sayaka says.

"You'rethe only one who can stop them," she says.

"Buthow?" Kaito asks.

"Youhave to find out the truth," Sayaka says. "You have to findout who killed me."

"ButI don't know where to start," Kaito says.

"Startby going back," Sayaka says. "Go back and see whathappened."

"Ican't go back," Kaito says. "Time doesn't move backwards."

"Youcan," Sayaka says. "With your ability."

"Ican't," Kaito says. "I'm not that powerful."

"Youare," Sayaka says.

"Ifyou want to save me, you have to do this," she says.

"Youcan do it," Sayaka says.

"Trustyourself," she says.

Kaitois scared and confused, but he trusts Sayaka.

"I'lltry," he says.

"Good,"Sayaka says. "You can do this."

"I'llcome back," Kaito says. "I promise."

"Iknow you will," Sayaka says.

Shefades away, and Kaito is left alone in the darkness.

Thenext day, Kaito wakes up.

Heis tired and confused, but he knows what he has to do.

Hegoes to school and tries to concentrate on his classes, but he can'tstop thinking about Sayaka and his promise to her.

Hegoes home after school and goes to his room.

Hecloses the door and focuses on his ability.

Theroom spins, and he opens his eyes.

Tohis surprise, he is in the hallway again.

Sayakais there, and she is alive.

"Whathappened?" Kaito asks.

"Youstopped time," Sayaka says.

"No,"Kaito says. "I was back in the present."

"Youwere," Sayaka says.

"Youstopped time, and you went back," she says.

"Backto where?" Kaito asks.

"Wheredo you think?" Sayaka asks.

"Here,"Kaito says.

"Yes,"Sayaka says.

"Whendo you think this is?" she asks.

"Yesterday,"Kaito says.

"Whattime?" Sayaka asks.

"Lunch,"Kaito says.

"Good,"Sayaka says.

"That'sthe right time," she says.

"So,this is a dream?" Kaito asks.

"Morelike a vision," Sayaka says.

"Anout of body experience?" Kaito asks.

"Sortof," Sayaka says.

"Whatare you doing here, then?" Kaito asks.

"Helpingyou," Sayaka says.

"Helpingme how?" Kaito asks.

"Byguiding you," Sayaka says.

"Ithought you were a ghost," Kaito says.

"I'mnot a ghost," Sayaka says.

"Thenwhat are you?" Kaito asks.

"Yourfriend," Sayaka says.

"Friendor not, you're scaring the crap out of me," Kaito says.

Sayakalaughs.

"Iknow," she says.

"Youcan't stay here," she says.

"What?"Kaito asks.

"Youhave to leave," she says.

"Noway," Kaito says.

"Thisis too weird," he says.

"It'llget even weirder," Sayaka says.

"Comeon," she says.

"Wehave to go," she says.

"Gowhere?" Kaito asks.

"Justwalk," Sayaka says.

Kaitowalks down the hallway, and Sayaka follows him.

Theypass the cafeteria, and they stop outside the library.

"Inhere," Sayaka says.

Kaitoopens the door, and they go inside.

Theywalk through the library, and they stop in front of a bookshelf.

"Inhere," Sayaka says.

Sheputs her hand on a book, and the bookshelf opens.

Kaitois shocked, and he walks through the bookshelf.

He finds himself in a dark room,and he sees Sayaka's body on the floor.
